That's his worth in the league. I don't expect he's asking that much from Collingwood. How much we end up signing him for is to be decided, but according to Buckley a deal is getting close and negotiations are going well. I simply don't understand why anyone's taking these negotiations so personally. Cloke's not the only player in the league (or at Collingwood) who's not yet signed.RudeBoy wrote:You are wrong inky. Cloke is worth $1 million a year to Fremantle and Melbourne because they are shit clubs with shit players. Given the pay rates we have to pay our A grade players, Cloke is not worth anywhere near that amount. I repeat, he is not worth anywhere near that amount to us. The choice is his. He either accepts a lucrative offer of around $700-750,000 pa from Collingwood and gets to play in a great team with his mates and win Premierships, or else he rejects this offer and accepts more money at a shit club. The longer these protracted negotiations drag on, the clearer it is becoming that he is more motivated by the bigger pay deals he can get elsewhere. That's his choice. Do it now, but don't phuk us around any longer.AN_Inkling wrote:I've no doubt he still is a team player.
It's possible the contract negotiations are affecting him to a degree. But really, I'm only keen for him to sign so that everyone else would shut up about it. It's kinda ridiculous where every game is more about whether Cloke's worth x amount of dollars than whether we won or lost.
Cloke's worth the amount of money clubs are willing to offer. That seems to be $1 million. They don't offer that sort of money as a joke guys.
The final details may not interest you, but they definitely interest me, and I know for a FACT that some of our current players are not happy having their own contracts squeezed by Cloke's excessive pay demands. When/if the deal is done, there will be those like you who will say "what was all the fuss about". But if we are unable to hold other players then the cost will have been too great. After 6 months of negotiations, blind freddy can see that this is dragging on too long and has the potential to damage our finals campaign.AN_Inkling wrote:That's his worth in the league. I don't have a problem with players looking to take care of themselves during contract negotiations. In the AFL players are far more loyal than clubs, by and large. If you don't take advantage of a strong situation you will get screwed over.
Now it's just up to the club to decide how much they can afford and for Cloke to decide if he wants to accept it. Simple. This was always going to take time, and I don't see how anyone can claim the "dragging out" is all Cloke's doing. The club had (it seems until recently) held firm on a 4 not 5 year deal. So far, Cloke has not accepted the club's offer and the club have not accepted Cloke's demands.
Cloke's almost certain to stay, and has said all along that was his intention, but the final details of it really don't interest me. It's a financial decision for club and player.
But he hardly Firesfrankiboy wrote:The contract negotiations have clearly unsettled him but let's not kid ourselves, he'd be easily in our top 3 most important players. He fires and we usually smash teams.
I believe most of us arent that effen stupid as to think to do that could have any positive effects. Its positively "Spainish" to be doing that! Come on its all the evil Clokes' fault that such money is on the table, Its got nothing to do with market value, free agency, and the new world of football. Reading some of the antics of the intellects in these Cloke threads is quite entertaining but it does make me gladder than ever that the majority of Nicksters have nothing at all to do with the administration of our club.AN_Inkling wrote:I've no doubt he still is a team player.

I'm just a bit shocked that old closet communist AN_Inkling is supporting the concept of market values.
