AND, the only one smiling today, is head honcho Gillon McLaughlan, this today takes the heat right off him, and the fiasco of the last two weeks, with the intimidation of fans fiasco, all the heat gone off him now. especially after his woeful media presser yesterday. This was a Godsend for him today,make no mistake.

Why would it go underground? Gambling is still legal for the public whether or not it's advertised, just like smoking. Smoking hasn't gone underground, has it?

Because by being in partnerships with the betting agencies, they get access to betting records. If they drop out, they no longer have that access and no longer have the power to check a players betting records.

The betting companies are also happy to help out as they don’t want results fixed that costs them money

Yes Jaidyn Stephenson has been very foolish doing what he has done, he has copped his whack justifiably so but more importantly my concern is how is going to cope psychologically even if it is his own fault. Too many footballers already have some mental issues, don’t need anymore. He’s still a very young man at the beginning of hopefully a long career in front of him playing for the mighty Collingwood football club. Side by side.

I think Collingwood should challenge Stevo penalty in Supreme Court.
Get right up the AFL as a reminder that civil rights exist and the civil law applies to everyone; including " their" footballers.

This double standards hypocrisy by the AFL was put forward by Mike Sheahan on AFL 360 tonight. Gerard showed little interest in giving it any air time. A very disappointing response by him.

K, it’s all relative. In the world that you and I live in, Stephenson as an everyday 20 year old, has done nothing wrong. I would much rather my son blow $30 every month on the punt than be shooting up or off his face every weekend.
We’re all disappointed with him because we are Collingwood supporters but that doesn’t make him a bad kid, just stupid.
There are a truck load of young AFL footballers who commit crimes that are punishable by law every week ( most of them are passing on images or videos without consent for a start ) Maybe they will get caught, maybe they won’t but if betting proves to be Stephensons biggest crime while he’s an AFL footballer, then he’s going alright as a young man .... just not as a bright one.

Whenever Kim Jong Gil and the AFL hierarchy take the high moral ground on anything, they absolutely stink of hypocrisy. This is but one of the more blatant of such occasions.

The AFL has, more than any other organisation in the country, paved the way for the normalisation of betting so much, such that many people can't distinguish the game from gambling. Young people are now growing up only ever seeing gambling ads for footy when they watch the game. They have never know it to be any different. This has long been the case with horse racing, but now footy is fast becoming a similar sport, where gambling is integral to its very fabric. It sickens me, and the leaders of the AFL should collectively resign in disgrace. They have done much, much, much more damage, bringing disrepute to our game, than Stevo has done. Shame AFL, shame.
