Possibly the worst, most unconvincing win I've ever seen (apart from last year's prelim).
How did 23 players simultaneously emit methane from their brains for 2 and a half hours?
Wellingham looked stoned out there.
Most bizarre one-two punch of the night: Thomas in the clear from 25m in front, elects to turn his body and drill a banana for a behind in the 2nd quarter. In the last quarter, on the boundary, elects to drill a drop punt instead of a banana (and into the opposite point post).
The less said about Elliot's mark and play on, and Harry's kick on the full in the dying seconds, the better.
Also, a 1/4 fit Krakouer and Didak are more value than Young and Seedsman.
But...we get the precious 4 points. Although, we are running out of time to 'click'.

agree but they always remember the last onepiepower wrote:Richo & BT get stuffed. We missed out on a lot of free kicks, that we should have got.
2010 GF ball bounces away from Milne but everyone forgets the bounce before that that should have gone to th boundary but took a leggy straight in Milnes path .. unlucky ??
I do not understand the vitriol being directed at Tom Young. He's a fine player and a good kid. He's played in 9 games, including tonight's, often as a sub. He's barely 20. If Collingwood had lost tonight, it would not have been his fault. Like Seedsman, he's being asked to slot into a spot to which he isn't particularly suited because there isn't anyone else. That's a bit of a shame, really, because Martin Clarke should be playing that spot but, after his atrocious (and, frankly, uncompetitive) game against GWS, they could hardly have left Clarke in the side this week.
As for suggesting Tom should be delisted, that's just seriously unfair. There were a whole lot of players firing blanks tonight - why pick on one kid?
Personally, I was angrier with Swanny for missing a simple shot from 30m out, straight in front, in the third. Sidey, Daisy, Goldie - just to think of the ones that came immediately to mind - all missed gettable shots when they had plenty of time to steady and kill the game. If they'd just nail the easy ones, they wouldn't need to do so many hard things.

Nathan Brown consistently poor
I hope AN_inkling and Pie 65 took a close look at Nathan Brown's efforts tonight, and think closely before they suggest he is better than Taz.
As soon as I noticed Brown's name I had dark thoughs about tonight, and when Reid was deliberately taken out by Kosi the thoughts became darker and darker. Thank God Reid is made of sterner stuff because Nathan Brown is a one trick pony, and he seems to think that looking as if you're trying is good enough. Personally, I'm sick of it and we need to use some of Nathan's money to keep Cloke however, Trav should not expect anymore than about $100K short of Swanny and Pendles per year.
Maybe Nathan would like to play in WA with his brother because watching the Derby today they have a lot in common. They look like hard at it footballers and as long as you don't watch them play, you are very positive they are.

Yeah
Yeah totally agree. This was a terrible win. I just walked in the door freezing my tits off and furious we played like a pack of old cows. How could they get so close. The only reason we won is the umpire cheated against Milne and awarded Harry a unwarranted free kick. I don't want to win games like that. I was very understanding of the Saints fans as they left and told the guy walking past me that they are pure scum and deserved to lose. But they have most deepest condolences.Raw Hammer wrote:Possibly the worst, most unconvincing win I've ever seen (apart from last year's prelim).

I love this club and I hold anyone in contempt who does not think it is worth fighting for.

I guess we weren't watching the same game because I thought all those players were really good. Shaw got victimised by a couple of horrible deliberate frees, but he won or halved every one on one contest he was in. And I thought O'Brien and Toovey were two of our best.Monco Matt wrote:Lucky to get away with that one. Saints played for their season tonight, they were fantastic defensively and really exposed a lot of our players as being a bit wobbly under the pump, I'll name them (Shaw, O'Brien, Young, Seedsman, Toovey). 3 best 22 defenders in there which is a concern. We cannot win the flag with this team, we are just not connecting well enough, too disjointed in our ball movement. May not be enough time to get Dids, Johnno, Caff & Krak back into the side and match fit, but we need to if we want to win this thing.
At some stage before finals we need to show genuine improvement and stop talking about improving because from early in the season until now we don't look like we are any better.

Dermot Brereton mentioned on radio last year after speaking to Scott Watter he believed Watters to be a smartest guy in the game.
Well he coached very well tonight, and he is a great loss from our coaching group. Laidley is also at the Saints, and I reckon he was the one that got away, because I am concerned about Buckleys assistants.
Butchering the ball inside 50 is killing us - so many wasted entries, and poor spot ups will kill our finals hopes if we can't fix it.
FWD Coach should have cured this problem which has plagued us all season.
2nd QTR showed that we can play - but inability to play 4 QTRS is a huge problem.

God,that was hard to watch.I don't know what to make of it because we were ordinary in the first quarter, very good in the second, abominable in the third, and not bad in the last.I really can't see how we can win the premiership because we're not playing with a lot of skill at the moment, and our use of the ball is pretty bad to be honest. You can't win premierships by just bombing the ball high up into your forward line,it just makes it too easy for the opposition's defence.
The best thing to come out of the game is that we almost certainly ended St Vomit's season. Now that's always got to be a good thing.
