Yeah agree with that. I think Salem will be available at 10 or 11 anyway.
So for us to upgrade, I suspect we have our eye on someone else.

Well it all comes down to how highly Hine rates Salem/Bontempelli compared to any potential slider.

If he saw them on par then to take Salem/Bontempelli at 6 might increase our chances by 50% that the other player we want will still be there at 10 because it's doubtful that Brisbane or Melbourne would overlook an Aish or Scharenberg.

It's a calculated risk and if they (lions, demons) do overlook an Aish or Scharenberg then we have the opportunity to take them at 10 which would be an absolute steal.

Sounds like it's the year of the prototype. Billings and Aish may slide out to 6.

Just another persons opinion in a long line of them but I wouldn't be to disappointed with Scharenberg at 6 and Bontempelli at 10.

Of course Lennon and Salem wouldn't be bad either.

LOL.

I just wonder if we could take Scharenberg and Bontempelli both at six because we couldn't split em and then take Lennon and Salem at 10 for the same reason! :P

Paige is going with us taking Salem at pick 6 with Scharenberg lasting till pick 10.

^^Hmm, solid reasoning. If we do like Salem, and want a player of that type in the draft, then we could take Salem at 6, because one of Scharenberg/Bontempelli/Lennon will be available at 10 if not picked in the top 5, and they are of broadly similar types.

Salem and any of Scharenberg, Bontempelli or Lennon would be fine by me. I'd prefer us to take one genuine mid and one utility rather than two utilities, and I really like the sound of Salem. Aish or Billings if they slipped would also be good.

I really want Scharenberg and if we got him at pick 10 it would be akin to taking Grundy at 18 last year IMO.

Snoop dog has him going at pick 2 that's how highly he rates him so if he's still there at 6 it would take some brass balls to overlook him in the hope he lasts till 10.

Not sure I'd take that risk and not sure why we would unless we were of the belief Melbourne had intentions of selecting Salem ahead of Freeman who they are constantly linked to.

This is all completely hypothetical, but if we like Salem and don't have a genuine backup for his type (assuming Aish and Billings are gone by 6), and we like Scharenberg and Bontempelli or even Lennon almost equally, then taking Salem at 6 makes sense if we feel there is some chance he'll be taken before 10, because one of the other 3 will be available then.

Less than a week before we'll actually know now, anyway :D.

At the end of the day it will all come down to who goes within the top 5.

If one of Scharenberg or Bontempelli are gone we may decide to pull the trigger on the other at pick 6.

If we still take Salem because Hine rates him that highly then someone like Acres could be in the mix at 10 as another tall rangy type.

Herald Sun saying Scharenberg looks like slipping to 6 and that we may take Salem at 10. Apparently we have "gone cold" on Bontempelli.

Sorry for paywall but private browsing fixes that:

You know what I read something interesting the other day that Scharenberg might have slipped in the rankings because some clubs are worried about the "go home factor" after conducting interviews with him.

Even more interesting is that Scharenberg is meant to be good friends with both Grundy and Kennedy.

Now surely we and him aren't trying to manipulate the situation so the likelihood of him getting to the pies is increased.

That would be draft tampering.

LOL.

I'll be over the moon if Scharenberg falls to us at 6.

Interestingly enough they have us taking McCarthy at 10 with Salem gone at 9 to Melbourne.

They have Sharenberg and McCarthy falling to us whilst Bontempelli goes to the scum.
