I figured before the game we'd probably get done by a few goals tonight, so all in all it wasn't a surprise. We've maintained enormous pressure for the past 3 weeks and kept it up for a lot of tonight's game, but we just couldn't sustain it, especially after losing Cloke.
Tonight highlighted our biggest problem - apart from Cloke, none of our big blokes can mark. Not Witts, Grundy or White. I hope we fast track Moore's development by playing him up forward. It's a shame Abbott is not eligible to play as he is a real beast and will be an important forward for us next year I think. Is it too much to hope that Reid will ever make it back into the side?
For those criticising Tooves and saying he should be replaced by Marsh, have any of you seen Marsh play? He's a terrible kick, worse than Toovey. I suggest we may have to turn to Karnezis and Scharenberg while we're without Cloke and Elliott. By golly we missed Adams tonight, though Greenwood did well for his first game.
I'm still not convinced we're well served playing both Witts and Grundy, given that neither of them take many marks around the ground.
Overall, I'm disappointed, but I've been tipping the Eagles to win the flag for since about round 6, so at least we weren't flogged.
Next week's game is now a must win. Not to make the finals, but to demonstrate we are actually a good side.

Yes, every week he seems to hit a new height in terms of grit, vision and courage. Rapidly becoming my favourite player. Stil think I'd rather he was up forward rather than HBF, as he nails opportunities where a lot of our forwards miss them.neil wrote:Varcoe is becoming an absolute gun for us

Yes Rudeboy I have seen Marsh play.
And yes he is a poor kick.
Probably why he went so low in the draft
But Tooves is a shocking kick.
Tooves is going backwards at a fast pace.
We are getting nowhere with Tooves.
Try something else!
Marsh has the X factor - we all know this.

we don't eat our own at collingwood we just allow them to foul our nest.

I don't want him to be fed to the wolves as such either, but I think that stringing a few games together at a time in collingwood's season where the pressure is REALLY on, and in a forward line without Cloke, he might gain invaluable mental drive and toughness that will push him to work as hard as he can through the end of this season and over the pre season.Dangles wrote:I think Moore is too skinny at this stage to impose himself on the contest at senior level. The kid is a first year KPP. He's years away from it. Let's not feed him to the wolves Jack Watts style.

Say if Clokey had an injury run like Reid who have we got on our list that can replace him.
Our ruckman cant mark, Moore is too skinny, Gault hasnt shown enough and I cant imagine him ever making it.
Is Abbot big enough to be a KPP and is he good enough?
All this talk of spending a fortune on Treloar when he'll have no one to kick it to seems a mistake to me.
Langdon has a good set of hands and a good kick, could he be an option to play like a Darling role.
If Reid ever gets fit he has to play forward.

I'd love to see Marsh get a game too, as he is an excitement machine. However, I reckon Nicks will then be flooded by posts about his shocking kicking. Just sayingthompsoc wrote:Yes Rudeboy I have seen Marsh play.

possibly but it felt like finger in the dyke stuff. the eagles have been dealing to the run of the mill teams and probably should have won today by a much more significant margin. again we did not take our opportunities and regularly got done on the rebound.Cam wrote:Cmon..
two kicks killed us
Swan's miss on 3 Q siren
Witts miss from free
kick those and perhaps different momentum, different result
the endeavour was there yet we lacked polish and shot ourselves in the foot on too many occasions. clearly we have a lot of work to do to bridge the gap between our best and worst. it's been a big four weeks; got close but no cigar. in the mean time we can console ourselves by having a laugh at the hysterical reactions from the usual suspects.
Purveyor of sanctimonious twaddle.
