Awesome statistic, which really puts everything re Nathan Freeman and Ben Kennedy in perspective. If Hawthorn had only a 50% success rate, then this really indicates where the benchmark is, because as we all know, Hawthorn's player development is superb.
We cannot therefore with any realism expect all our top 10 draft picks to develop into elite, or even just very good, players.
By the way, this year I thought that we really reached an outstanding level of excellence in the development of our young players. The development of De Goey, Crisp, Marsh, Maynard, Moore, (to mention only our first year players) was for me a highlight of the year.

Hine couldn't have foreseen Freeman's injury problems, and Kennedy, well let's wait and see if he stays or goes. Compared to most Hine has a great record he's bound to have a few loses in the draft.

The fact he's plucked a few gems with late picks I think we can let a couple slide here and there...

Actually, it's Hawthorn's player poaching that is superb, their development is as hit and miss as every other teams (Carlton & Melbourne obvious exclusions from that generalisation).

This is nothing more than a rumour from SEN at this stage unless I'm mistaken so loathe to give it too much oxygen, their record isn't too flash.

Is it wrong that I forgot the Grand Final was on but am excited for Trade Week(s)?

it makes sense that guys like Kennedy and Seedsman should be looking at other options. I actually believe both are AFL caliber footballers. I suspect both of them will have a really hard time getting a game at our club because we are covered at those positions. Heath Scotland was the classic case in point here. The guy that went to the Suns is another good example.

I mean, can you really see anyone but Langdon and Scharenberg being picked on the HBF for the next 15 years?????? Similarly, what are the odds that BK pushes DeGoey, Treloar, Pendles, Greenwood, Crisp, Swan and of course Adams out of the midfield rotation - especially since Williams, Broomhead, Elliot and Blair all seem ahead of him in the forward/back little man department.

Yeah, I'm comfortable Seedsman has requested a trade, and I'm not discounted that another club might enquire after a player like BK, just not so sure we'd entertain it unless BK himself came out and declared his preference to be traded. Lot of water will flow under the bridge before we get to that point I think. The next 3 weeks will definitely be interesting.

I'm with you - let me qualify that, on this issue I really haven't taken much notice of the finals this year.

I love the trade period & the hope that trade week brings but now I'm tired of it.

Agree with most of that. I think the pies should actively be trying to turn some of these good to have depth players into one star. These day, when I'm building my perfect Collingwood team, it feels like there are about 35 players who could make a case to be included on the bench of our best 22. I would happily trade three of these guys (especially in positions where we have depth), for a first picked type of player.

BK and Seedsman (and for that matter, Ramsey, Oxley and Sinclair) are in my mind all fine players who deserve to play AFL. But I would give up all 5 of them for one All Australian calber player because I think that would make our best 22 a lot stronger.
