Let’s be clear here: the twice elected Premier of Victoria the right honourable Daniel Andrews continues to lead the way.

Firstly after Gladys’s export of the Sidanee Virus to the rest of Australia because she didn’t lock down hard enough early enough and more importantly didn’t make mask wearing compulsory soon enough meant that every other state in Australia had to fix her mess including of course Victoria.

Second Victoria has gotten onto this very quickly with testing, isolation, retesting (and in contrast to NSW who spread the virus to the rest of the Country but due to the good work of the other state premiers contained Berijikians’ balls up) we have communicated well, mandated mask wearing straight away, locked down aged care facilities (again) and are sensibly and strategically stopping the spread locally and not exporting it elsewhere.

Well done to the twice elected Premier of Victoria the right honourable Daniel Andrews (who when all the other nervous nellies were abandoning ship backed Eddie Maguire to lead through the cacophony of the media inflamed row) Well done Premier.

It’s interesting for a bloke who supports BLM and Invasion Day rallies in the middle of a pandemic that he also supports a racist.

the twice elected Premier of Melbourne continues to show he has zero sense of finesse or nuance, imposing blanket restrictions across the state instead of just on those dirty infectious Sth Eastern suburbs.

The logic in people in Mildura or Wodonga or Horsham suddenly having to wear masks indoors would be what?

I agree with you, those filthy bastards in the City of Bayside are a disgrace. We in the City of Glen Eira don’t wish to breathe the same air (I live about 500 meters from the City of Bayside) and a 10’minute bike ride to the end of North Road where the cafe is where the potentially infectious bloke was.

However, like David we share the same scumbag as the federal member for the rabid IPA sorry Goldstein

No one in regional Victoria voted for him so they have to suffer for his constituents constant flouting if the rules.

But the fact the people of Mulgrave elected him says a lot about the lack of intelligence of anyone down that way...

The fact is the states are responsible for the quarantine proceedings. Victoria is the only state bringing in non-Australians for the tennis, everyone else is just bringing in Australians.

As you agreed, the argument that the CBD is logistically better is flawed. Following the Darwin model would be far smarter, the rest is just logistics.

Find or build a place just remote enough that there's no chance of casual contamination that has self contained cabins that can be separated into zones with fencing. This allows people to actually get outside, access to fresh air and removes the whole airconditioning issue.

Station an ambulance there for the duration with staff on rotation, remaining outside unless needed.

Staff live on site in a FIFO arrangement. Work for 14 days, quarantine for 14 days (on full pay) on site segregated from potential infection, go home for 14 days, rinse and repeat.

There's already concerns that some vaccines won't be effective or be less effective against mutant strains and we still have no clues how long the different vaccines provide immunity for, so we need to play the long game and plan to do this for another 2 years at minimum
I do think the feds should be taking responsibility for border control and therefore, quarantining people entering, however you comments about how the states could do it better is spot on.

Who has primary responsibility for hotel quarantine?
The PM says the states and territories run hotel quarantine "consistent with the public health orders that are in place with each of their states and territories".

"That was the decision we made last March.

"And that was also made after having advised how the federal biosecurity laws work. And so, that's why it was agreed that that was the most effective way of put that into place and it has been extremely effective."
https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-02-05/ ... t/13122610

The constitution grants the Commonwealth Government the power to make laws in relation to Immigration and Quarantine, no where does it state that they have to take the responsibility for the day to day management.

In fact, if the Federal Government tried to run the hotel quarantine in each state the Premiers would scream blue murder.

You are dreaming.

Tell us about how the states run all the international airports again. We liked that bit.

Commonwealth legislation governs the running of Aged Care but the Federal Government actually runs next to zero Aged Care facilities. They are run by private NFP, Private FP and government NFP.

Same situation and coincidentally same blame game.

Cheers for that. We do need to think forward and not just tread water thinking a vaccine is the silver bullet. This shit isn't going away any time soon and we don't know what might be next.

Great to see Dan learning from Gladys and not locking down for 1 case, unlike QLD and WA over reacting, although he's still clearly struggling with the notion that Victoria is more than just Melbourne.

And the Commonwealth is responsible for it. Same deal as with airports and quarantine. You can outsource implementation but you can't shirk responsibility.

The Commonwealth has aged-care standards and inspectors to enforce them. What did they actually do? Nothing. Absolutely bloody nothing. They had one job: to inspect aged care facilities and ensure that they were up to the standards set down for them. And they did .... nothing whatsoever.

The responsible minister was so out of touch that he didn't even know how many of the people he was responsible for had died of Covid on his watch. Any minister in any decent, moral government anywhere in the world would resign in disgrace after such an appalling neglect of duty. In Japan, you'd be locking up the pills and hiding the razor blades. Not on Scummo's watch: no such thing as responsibility here mate, he only does marketing.

Whilst we had a Premier who's department made all the key decisions regarding hotel quarantine and received all the offers of assistance from the Federal government and the Premier has no recollection of any of this occurring or he had zero oversight over his department.

So either he's a liar or incompetent and yet he still has a job...

Although Dan did slam the borders shut to anyone in Brisbane or Perth, including Victorians, over that one case!
