Montagna on MMM this arvo stated that Grundy to Melbourne was 'a done deal...' Likely for us to get a number of Freo/ Melbourne draft picks.
Mind you, Montagna also said '"that Collingwood's 'LUCK' was due to run out citing that was why we lost...
Some early draft picks and Griffin Logue might be headed our way.
Brownless also stated that Jordan De Goey is 100% likely to stay a Pie.
Make of the above what you will...

Starting to worry about the return now that it seams everyone is being linked to other clubs.
We can get guys like Hill, Frampton and even Mitchell without having to trade Grundy.
Logue would be a good in, but I would love to snatch a good ruckman from somewhere. Somewhere like Essendon.

The ruck status sure is interesting overall
If grundy goes there are certainly options.
If Luke Jackson goes to Freo, will Sean Darcy be happy to stay?
Lloyd Meek has looked very good at Freo in the games he filled in this year.
Strauhan at adelaide has been fantastic in the SANFL, and looked ok in his few AFL games
Tom De Koning at Carlton has battles with Pittonet, and allegedly a salary cap crunch coming
Xerri, was courted by st Kilda last year, and Goldstein is now reportedly recommitting to another year so maybe he will be gettable
Ivan Soldo is apparently looking for more gametime
So all of these players are almost definitely worse than grundy in a sole 1 vs 1 situation, but they are all cheaper and all enable it to become a 2 vs 1 conversation with something like HIll + New Ruck vs Grundy

I suspect that allowing Grundy to play elsewhere will enable us to make a play for an absolute A Grader, if not this year, then certainly next year.
I'm comfortable with that outcome.

Jackson isnt over the line at dockers so Grundy and Dee’s mightn’t be a go
Leaves hawks and Essendon
Hawkins have said they won’t be trading pick 6 so that would rule them out for us I would think
Essendon with mo coach and no idea on how to run a football team wouldn’t be appealing to Grundy you would think
So as much as he may want out he may not find a suitable landing spot that is suitable to him and club
I would say hawks pick 6 is the absolute minimum would accept along with his entire salary gone
If they want to keep #6 then we would want 3 ready made best 22 players all under 27 in return which wouldn’t suit them
Essendon might make most sense to us they have better pick and apparently have loads of cap space but have a decent young ruck already in there books who costs less than half of what Grundy costs so mightn’t make sense to them plus Grundy may want a finals bound team
St Kilda could be a Smokey
Ryder retired they may look to get a new improved ruck situation
They won’t be getting JDG it looks and have cap space and a half decent 1sr round pick we could wrangle plus a second rounder as well
This trade period could be most entertaining in years

IF Grundy leaves an goes to the vile Deeees, an we have to then pay part of his contract to the tune of $300 000 a year, I fairdinkum i will fooking spew, I will spew, be absolutely furious. Did we learn NOTHING FROM THE TRELOAR DISASTER, NOTHING ?? This paying big big money to have one of our own guys, to play against us, reeks of absolute shit. Its just not on. Oh and if we are relying on just Cox, Cameron and a very young Begg, for rucks, and Cox goes down injured, or Cameron,we are stuffed next season , stuffed. I cannot believe Wright would be stupid enough to do a Trealor like deal, us paying a player to play against us. Give me Strength. !!!!!!!!

PNC the Treloar mess was completely different
We got ourselves in cap mess by asking him to constantly extend another year and it finally caught up with us
Grundy is different the reports are it’s he who wants out so if we decide to let him go then it will be on our terms
We won’t be paying $300k Wright made a statement as did the new president when appointed it will never happen again (paying a player to play elsewhere)
The media are being fed this tripe by Grundy’s management trying to force our hand
Wright is way to smart for that
Ned Guy wasn’t and he got us into this mess being the Treloar departure and Grundy deal

^ OK, fine then, you dont know who to believe, ive heard Grundy himself really wants to stay with us, I have read, who knows ? If he did go to the Dees, how bout we get for him, Oliver plus their first pick, yeh, I can live with that, I guess. Hes still OUR contracted player, so we hold all the Aces, hey .

We don’t hold all the aces I reckon Grundy is just a jack, maybe a queen at best. No other club would pay him his current salary at his age.

I think it's unfair to say we learnt nothing from the Treloar disaster. I think we learned:
Backending contracts and deferring payments is not wise
Paying Superstar Level salary to someone who isn't a Superstar doesn't make sense
Just because the original mistake was offering the contract in the first place, doesn't mean you shouldn't try to rectify your mistake later
Moving on from an undesirable contract, no matter how likeable the player is, can reap rewards in the future (like opening up cap space to get in a player like Lipinski)
Sometimes it's worth paying a portion of a players contract to free up cap space for players where the money is better spent
