As pleasing as that win was last night, I don't think we can match it with GEE & StK come September. Unless we beat St.K in rnd 16 (or whenever it is....) And kick more accutately for goal, that would help.

I hate to say it, but Leon was a liability last night, he coughed it up way too many times.
I was praying for him to get a goal all night just so he can get some confidence, but it was not to be unfortunately.

Our small forwards aren't doing the job at the minute.
Dick (inj) Leon & Medders desperately out of form. It would be great if those 2 can get their act together by finals, we have 9 rounds to go, so there's still time up our sleeve.

Lots to like about last night in regards to our future but I agree with Cam: We are still a way off geelong and st. kilda.

I posted, in this and the Game On thread, about posters repeatedly commenting about our kicking for goal.

In the interest of balance, and after watching the replay (I didn't get it live), I want to highlight some excellent shots for goal.

1. Harry's stunning steal, sprint, and centimetre perfect low kick for a goal. A lesser player, caught up in the moment, could well have blazed away and missed.

2. Leroy's beautifully measured low shot. Again, no wild kick at an open goal.

3. Dids' silken goal from the left pocket.

4. Sidey's snap from right forward pocket.

5. Dawes' first goal.

There were others but my point is, why do we have multiple posts about Tim Lane's commentary and our bad kicking but barely a mention of these excellent shots for goal ?
Donny.

It's a game. Enjoy it. :D

No one, he should go back to the VFL and earn his recall
Can someone please inform me why Eddiesmith detests our skipper so much? Eddie takes a pot shot at Maxwell every chance he gets, and it's way too predictable. Check his past posts - "Maxwell's a dud, Hackwell is crap" Eddie, your apparent loathing of Maxwell is bordering on tiresome, but I could perhaps understand it if I knew the background to it.

It seems so personal, that all I can think is that at some point in the past Maxxy either:

* bumped into you at the bar and failed to apologise;
* insulted you or slighted you when you met him socially;
* still hasn't paid you back for that $20 you loaned him a while back; or
* stole your girlfriend.

Am I close??
Nope

Why does anyone hate any player? Usually its more because they think they are absolutely shit, why do some people bag Fraser every chance? O'Bree? Etc, everyone does it, just seems that when someone picks on the favourite son it gets noticed even though he is the most overrated player to ever play for Collingwood

It truly is amazing that a player is a guaranteed starter as a defender when he has never beaten an opponent 1 on 1 and his skill level is not good enough to be a great rebounding defender

Anyone can look good not having an opponent

Oh and David that is not entirely the reason, although I do love the hypocrisy of those who said we could not ever get away with having a defender as loose man anymore because teams would just man him up, 5 years later and we have a captain who does it

You'd make an interesting point if you weren't so over the top with your opinions! Personally, I don't believe Maxwell would be in our best 22 every week if he wasn't the Captain. Probably just a good average footballer but he's an outstanding leader and that's why he must play.

I'd say we only had 4 gettable shots on goal that were missed.

Tarks set shot from 40 out that didn't make the distance.
Dawes from 30 out, 45 degree angle.
Swan's snap when 2 Pies were alone in the goalsquare.
Cloke's miss from 55.

Good solid win, Like a stroll in the park, the boys looked they knew what the end result was going to be from the opening bounce, i am of the belief that Maxwell should be making his way through the VFL and see if he can beat a young opponent one on one, Goldsack is head and shoulders above him in terms of football ability and smarts, We made him Captain and hence the dilema of him guaranteed a game each week when he should be focusing his energy on improving himself from an ordinary player to a good player.
Come September if he is played in the backline he is going to get exposed big time and we will pay the price.
Instead of pointing his arms everwhere to his teamates, he shoud be setting the example of trying to nullify his opponent by example,
Thats what a leader is, not just pointing his finger and talking, he won`t and Collingwood won`t get away with it come September if he doesn`t improve and actually man up on an opponenet.

Great night; except for the obnoxious drunken kids in front of us who screamed druken abuse at any and all pies supporters, tried to steal the game ball after Jolly's goal, and challenged me "to dance" when leaving the ground. Charming. At 9 on 4 they must of liked the odds. Kids today!

The forward structure is off, always looked better with Dawes there; please don't shoot me when I say that Rusling would really add another dimension and straighten us out.

Game didn't seem to reach any great heights, and the crowd was pretty small compared to other years
Leon was very poor

I'd say there were more than that but regardless, what should have been 4.0.24 ends up being 0.4.4. That's a 20 point difference. Against Geelong and the Saints that could be the difference between also-rans and premiers.

In fact I'm certain of it - we cannot beat the Cats or Saints unless we make the most of our opportunities - that means kicking the gettable ones and the hard ones. How can we do that when we can't do it against the likes of Brisbane/Melbourne/Sydney?

I would add Daisy's set shot at goal in second or third Q (sorry cant remember) but should have kicked it. It was the one where Tarks passed it to him

I would ask why did tark's pass it back to him. Angle was only slightly better but 15 meteres further out.

tarks should have taken responsibility and slotted it from 30 out on a tight angle.

The best thing to come out of the game imo, was that it confirmed our best big man line up, with Leroy supporting Jolly in the ruck and Dawes sharing forward duties with Travis. They all provide strength and grunt, which will come in handy in September. More importantly perhaps, they each provide what Wood and Josh are incapable of delivering.

This just leaves our small forwards plenty of room for improvement. I reckon Leon needs a couple of weeks playing on the ball to get his mojo back, while I'm hoping that Medhurst will recover from whatever is ailing him. With Medhurst and Leon firing up forward we're a 4-5 goal better side, which is about what currently separates us from the Cats and Saints.

Fantastic to see the Sack back in the side. He should hold his spot when Maxy returns, as Tarks will have to make way.

The only worry was the shoulder problems of Dick. It's a bad sign when it hurts gain 4 months after surgery. He is a match winner Dicky, so let's hope he's OK.

I'm still concerned our boundary line gameplan does not hold up against the best teams, but I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Worst post in the history of Nick's.

Just kidding, but it's pretty bad.

Maxwell is among our best five players week in, week out. I don't understand why some don't see that he's in our best 22.

Im with you Donny, we didnt miss that many set shots. Most of the points came from rushed behinds or low percentage shots. People just look at the scoreboard/ see the amount of points and just assume we had a shocker. Not the case- there was some beautiful shots for goal last night.
