I doubt if Aish would make it through.
If we get the chance Salem does sound look like a terrific package. He can kick accurately so might not fit in.

Jay Clark reckons we are keen on Bontempelli at 6 and to follow it up with Lennon at 10.

It's official now.
We're no chance for Bontempelli.
I can't see Scharenberg slipping to 6 unless GWS take Bontempelli at pick 2.
Even then I'd imagine Aish would be more a chance to slip to sixth.
The lions are said to be interested in Lennon as well.

The lions would be interested in a witches hat at this point in time. And even then 2 years later would probably complain of home sickness and seek a trade

Derek Hine plays his cards close to his chest. No way would he tell anyone who he planned on picking. Unless he is throwing a smoke screen in the hope of snaring someone else. I remember the media had us taking Xavier Ellis too in 2005 & we took Daisy & Pendles. Either they are guessing or Hine is being shifty. Intiguing times ahead.

Taylor Adams is Luke Ball's successor. Derek Hine said so.
No rucks in the top 10-20 players so won't be chasing them either. Have two rucks about 22 and under so not an urgent priority seemingly.
As for McCarthy, there seems to be about 10 of him in next year's intake so no need to use one of the top 10 picks on him this year I wouldn't expect. We have Darcy Moore rights of course.

Yes, but if we were to take McCarthy this draft he'd have had 12 months in our system by then, had a preseason, hopefully played half a dozen plus games so he'd be well ahead. Also no guarantee that we'll be able to access one next season, Moore aside.

OEP wrote:Yup I know this but you seem to basing this just on height alone. Of the 4 you mentioned above only McCartin can be considered close to McCarthy, but even he doesn't have all the attributes McCarthy already has (excellent reader of the ball in flight, excellent mark on the lead and in contested marking situations, excellent accuracy when kicking for goal, very solid under pressure, excellent defensive attributes, has very good speed and agility, good tank, good below the knees, good hands, excellent attitude, will get his own hard ball, is tall, and has a reasonable build) and McCarthy still has massive room for growth as a footballer.
If Collingwood miss him it'll be our loss.
Yep, I agree. Quality talls are hard to come by. And we've already added Adams and Karnezis to our midfield rotations for 2014 and beyond, and that is a midfield that already had 10-12 potential options.

In my dreams I had us taking a replacement for Pendlebury and a replacement for Cloke in the next few years... If Bontempelli is Pendlebury like I will just about wet myself. The bio is amazingly similar (although often misleading) - it must be too good to be true!
And to get a Lennon or similar at 10 would be wonderful. Whatever happens it appears we will get two very good players this year

It took years but Kouta when he reached his peak was almost unstoppable playing through the middle.
Pavlich is another you would say played as a tall midfielder in periods of his career.
Tall athletic midfielders/utilities will be more common staples within teams into the future IMO.
Anyway no point worrying to much just trust Hine knows what he's doing.
If we took Aish and Bontempelli is gone by 10 then I'll be happy with Lennon or someone like Acres who is a Bontempelli type looking at reports.
Agree. Goodies, Roughy, Franklin, Pavlich are just a few KPP types who can go into the midfield and do ok. A 194cm mid with inside/outside ability, time, agility, disposal efficiency, and leg speed sounds like a guy every team would love to have and someone who's an absolute nightmare to matchup with.

Now Daics knows how his opponents felt for all those years...

After watching that, I want him.

all this draft talk is like reading the form guide for the Melbourne Cup, every horse is considered some chance. Reading the draft form guide, everyone sounds like a superstar. If GWS or the Gold Coast had their picks this year, they would be unstoppable you would think. So, is this a better draft than the last two?, or does the performances of GWS/GC over the last two years really show you where all teenage superstars are really at.
