Can't afford honourable losses over the next two weeks.
Need to get some value for effort on the ladder now.
Moore was as I expected and I'm happy with that for a debut game.
You always felt something good might happen when the ball was in his area, was involved in a couple of goals and that attempted mark running back with the flight of the ball showed real courage.
Once he gets stronger and more experienced he'll become a forward weapon of quality.
Maynard for his first game against quality opposition was solid, made a couple of errors but some of his kicks were really creative.
Given the opposition he gets a tick in his first game.

Head down, keep improving and keep backing up week-after-week.
Little else to be concerned about at this stage. This is a good developing side with a good attitude; we will start nailing these games soon enough.

How can Cloke, white, and almost fasolo look there team mates in the eye.
They butchered the pill at almost every time the touched it. Instead of taking
the glory and sealing the moment in Collingwoods favour they $@&^# it. For
gods sake we need new kp forwards to put these moments out of reach to
all we play. But year after year we let whoever we play back into the game.
That handball ffs, that turnover in the first, all by Cloke, he's field kicking
Was atrocious. Toovey was owned again by a small who was better than him
he cannot continue like this. At this stage of there careers, these blokes will not get any better and will need to be, sooner than later, be omitted permanently. Sidekick your on thin ice as well.

If you want a top 4 birth don't kick it to Jesse white within the last 4 minutes, ensured that we couldn't win the last 2 games- back backing misses anybody who can't grasp how he deflates the team when victory is a distinct possibility with his deplorable, reprehensible misses from easy positions needs a psychiatric assessment. Structure my arse!

Fought hard. Just need to spread a bit better in the clearances. I still think we committ to many to the contest sometimes and get hurt on the turnover to much. We are a very good in close team just need a bit of polish on the out.
Crisp and Varcoe been great and both in top 5 of the Copeland or even top 3 with Pendles.
Tooveys got to be more accountable or we can no long carry him. Was poor tonight. Darcy probably goes back to the VFL. Didn't really impact the game. Had a few moments and battled hard. Maynard was good. Good taste for both guys.

The most extraordinary aspect of that brilliant Pies performance was that we beat the Hawks in almost every strength related statistic: clearances, contested ball, tackling, contested marks. Most of them weren't even close. I would not have believed it possible for such a young team.
I also feel we used the ball better than they did as well. They struggled badly to move the ball out of our forward line, which is why the Cloke handball in the last was such a killer. I don't think we just competed, we proved to be the better team, despite the loss.

Sounds about right. If Buddy and Tippett get 1 week each Varcoe probably out for the season.eddiesmith wrote:6 weeksselkevh wrote:So will Varcoe miss any weeks?

God I hate ridiculous statements like this. Kid had a crack but had 4 possessions. Gault has only played 3 games but he's averaging nearly 9 possessions and .7 or .8 goals a game. How about we just enjoy watching young players emerge.WarrenerraW wrote:Moore gave more in 3 quarters than Gault has in his entire career.

Does anyone think we went in too young tonight?Should we have selected Grundy instead of Moore and Seedsman instead of Maynard? And was it a mistake to have Blair as the sub?He looked very lively when he finally came on?

not unhappy with our effort, anyone remember 2011? a a turning point for Hawthorn ....a great Collingwood side stopped in its tracks...that held on to just win. I am hoping we can use tonight's game as a springboard to show that we can not only match them, but beat them. Correct me if i am wrong but tonight is the closest we have been since 2011.
To make top four now would take not only winning the next two. and like many i have just "that feeling" that port will come out breathing fire next week. But for anyone who is happy to take a longer term view then this season... i am very happy with the ability we are showing. If we dont make top four this year, well i can live with that. hit the finals, it is still a dam side better then most of the punters had us for this year.

Quite simply, we're good but not good enough. In the heat of the battle, our disposal let us down. In a losing side, Pendles was clearly best on ground but geez, Crispy has stepped up a level. Nice cameo from Blairy at the end.
Initiated by Clarko, what a marvellous gesture at the end. It really is just a game of footy.

That's just so miserable that it's unworthy of substantive comment. What'sinaname wrote:So he kept at it, continuing to find ways to cost us the game until he finally found the way. I wish he had have dropped his head and sulked in the goal square. Probably would have won it.Pies4shaw wrote:You notice how Cloke backed up, didn't drop his head and kept working and working to try to get them over the line? He had a bad kicking night and he gave away a handball that, in context, just about cost the game but he kept at it. It'd be good if a few of the others who were having down nights learn from his effort.

I thought the defense was pretty good tonight, even allowing for Maynard as a rookie. Kid made a couple of mistakes but he'll learn a lot from that. Williams, Langdon and Tooves all very good.Collingwood Crackerjack wrote:Surely you jest; toovs was one of our better small defenders.swoop42 wrote:Old man Toovey just got owned two weeks running.Collingwood Crackerjack wrote:Out: Toovey ?
