My only real disappointment was Aish. I just can't see why we pursued him. I wonder if he had a different surname whether he'd have been drafted by anyone. He's just way too hesitant to play senior footy. I'll reserve judgement on Howe. He showed a bit, but needs to show a lot more. Losing Varcoe is dreadful as we don't have another player of his ilk. Maybe Broomhead and Wills will come in next week.

The funny thing is when Aish was at Brisbane I didn't really see what all the hype was about, Broomhead seemed more capable and yet I was happy for the club to pursue him hard.

Strange and I can only think it was the Brisbane/Beams factor influencing me.

While it's only early days right now Aish has been seriously disappointing.

I thought we would at least be getting a slightly built outside receiver with good foot skills and yet at present Aish can't find enough open space and is finding more inside ball and using it by hand.

So is it just a young player still getting accustomed to his new team and game plan, a fitness issue, poor form or is he just to one paced to play the role off half back or on a wing and can't run and spread well enough to be an option in open space.

Probably harder for an outside player to adapt to a new team, I'd give him another 2 weeks to get amongst it, if he doesn't he can go and keep Trav company until he does.

Great win, came out hard and killed it in the first half. Yeah we dropped off in the second half but they also lifted. I'll take a 69 point win any day after the rubbish we served up so far this season.

If that doesn't make it clear to the doubters, I don't know what will.

It's not the coach or game plan that's been the problem, it's the players ability to execute.

Today they came out and performed. That's the new benchmark. The Sack Buckley brigade should all go skydiving without parachutes.

Great effort by the boys. When the game was up to be won they were fantastic. For those that are condemning their second half effort, it was obvious that they have pulled the foot of the accelerator and just wanted to maintain their lead. I would rather see this than have players injured in the latter part of the game.

Hopefully the win gives them the confidence and self belief they have been lacking.

This is only round 5 and their is ample opportunity to turn the season around.

Glad to get the W, but the second half does not inspire confidence for the next month of football, can't see us winning more than one of the next four and that is against Carlscum which is never guaranteed. Glad to see Adams, Pendles, Sidebum, Greenwood, Treloar, Reid and Cox have good games. Crisp was woeful and should join Cloke in the magoos. Not sure about Smith, got plenty of it but made some howlers. Varcoe is a massive loss- I don't think we can win without him, he's that important.

The big one for me was Adams. This is the Adams we want to see: 36 disposals, 14 of them contested after only 4 last week. Need him in tight winning the ball, not on the outside. Still didn't see enough of him in the centre square, but this was his best game of the season by a mile.

Absolutely agree. He is a huge loss. He does the inspirational things with his pace and second and third efforts.

Something to remember about Aish is that he's only 4 months older than De Goey. He's still finding his feet at a new club and as a slight player without great pace it may take him a bit of time. It's looking as if he wasn't quite worth the pick 7 Brisbane used on him, but it's too early to be sure of that. I did think he was good last week in a losing effort with over 20 touches.

Thanks for this salient point! I didn't realize that he is as young as that. Probably hasn't had as much experience as De Goey either? I will now reserve my judgement on him.

I feel very relieved after the win. Happy as well, but more relieved. We simply could not have lost today, so well done to the team for pulling it together and having a big win - it's been long overdue.

Loved the first half. We ran hard, tackled well, used the ball quite effectively and played with a desire and intent that's been missing over the last 4 weeks.

Yes the opposition was essendope and we all know they're a thrown together mish mash of players, but they still play competitive football and showed that in the second half.

Our second half was appalling. Why are we so insistent on handballing at every given opportunity. Message to the players: the football is not a hooker and not everyone needs to touch it. Look ahead find an option and kick it. Just kick the bloody thing. We piss fart around way too much and turn the ball over all the time. It was the only sour note on what was an impressive enough win.

When we're good, we look capable of matching it with the best but there's still a lot of holes to fill in our game.

Forward line looked solid and in fine form. Faz stood out for me. Sidey sneaked a few which he needs to do more of. Howe starting to find some form. Moore showed us a glimpse or two of how good he'll be in years to come.

Shame about Varcoe. I hope it's only a minor grade injury and not one that will keep him out for too long. We'll definitely miss his run and carry.

Defense was pretty good all round but I'd prefer if we kept a close check on opponents rather than letting them run into space easily. A better side would've exposed us here. Reid is fantastic and a general down back. Brown is competitive and tries hard but is probably a step or two off the pace of the modern game. Tooves did alright and kicked the ball well.

Aish... not sure what we were getting with him but I'm not seeing the benefits considering what we paid for him. He elects to handball all the time even when he has a clear shot at goal. Don't know if it's fitness, lack of understanding of our style or what it is but he looks lost and unsure of himself.

Pendles needs to stay in the middle where he belongs. Adams is a terrier and in everything bar a shit sandwich. Crisp was ok. Greenwood was good too. Cox is a monster. I hope he makes the grade in the afl it would be such a great story and achievement if he did.

Maynard needs a kick up the arse. That attempt to handball his way out from the kick in which resulted in a goal was stupid and dumb.

Next week will be a huge test for us. I'm not confident but I hope we can step up to the plate and compete for four quarters and come home with a win.

Today I saw evidence of what we can be - if we try, but I also saw the other side of the coin. The indecisive, uncertain, sloppy and incompetent side. That's the side we need to iron out.

Not really, yes he got plenty, which is a good sign, but he looked decidedly rushed against a second rate team and made several unforced errors; I think he would do well to go back to the 2nds and get some more runs on the board before we try him against more able opposition
