This is the Footscray coach's take on it:

"A BIT of a head scratcher" is how Luke Beveridge described the Bulldogs' dismal showing against Collingwood on Friday night, but said the players needed to "wear it" after they allowed Brodie Grundy to walk all over them.

Grundy completely dominated youngster Tim English and also the Dogs' midfield, with Beveridge admitting his players struggled to read where the best-on-ground ruckman was going to hit the ball.

...

"We just got beaten out of the centre, our backs were under immediate pressure straight away and then what a tragic night to play in a Western Bulldogs jersey if you're a forward," Beveridge said.

"It was just a real nightmare.

"The boys who played in there against Grundy, not just Tim, they just need to wear it.

"He's a big powerful man and he's become an extremely good player but we should be better than we were tonight."

I think that was the blue print on how bucks wants this team to play the
game. throughout the preseason comments were dropped by staff that
lead to this. comments like "we came back from break looking fit and
healthy" and "we brought out the footys earlier this year". the team
played so well apart from some set shot kicking. boy if grundy and
de-fatso kicked with a bit more poise that would of taken away the
angst I was feeling when the dogs kept getting free kicks in front of
goal, and really cemented a strong win, regardless of a piss weak
team that forgot the fundamentals of modern day footy.
In saying that how do you pick the BOG when no-one had a bad game?
grundy was Thor like starring in the back drop of a marvel banner
along with crisp and his long raking give it to me ill bloody well kick
it then theme and then there's howe good is he in black and white.
a message to Raw Hammer.. mate, watch the games with a purist
perspective. watch how footy clubs have evolved after a pre season
and listen to the sounds of the best in the land whack each other like
there's no tomorrow. listen to the noise of a Daicos kick for goal, just definite pure crack!
be critical at the footy not the wankers whom are out of control and
out of your control. there's nothing we can do to make a difference.
let it run its course and in the mean time be glad the footy is back on.
ps I think I will continue being doubtful each week in the pregame
threads. I like the element of surprise and the surreal feeling I get
when every thing I say in them is completely wrong. go pies.
no second chances

Howe was just classy. . Ditto Crisp, Noble, Moore, Roughy, in fact was there a bad player? Maybe Cox?,

It might be asking too much, but I wish Coxy could be given some slack. His mere presence gives defenders nightmares and he does so many selfless, unnoticed, team-orientated acts. He doesn't need to be marking everything in sight to be of real value to the team.
*****

5 stars to you. I agree 100%. I just posed it that way because if he doesn't take 10 marks and kick 4 goals he isn't rated. He kicked 2 early goals, kept the defenders deep , palmed it down when required and was as good as a relief ruck as you will ever see.

Will watch the replay and enjoy defeating this minnow club, as I always do. But it doesn’t change the fact that this season should have been postponed.
I thought you weren’t watching this season? I’m glad you are but please pick a lane. You’re in or your out.
I said I wouldn’t watch. And I didn’t. It’s a stupid season. 16 min quarters. Elbow and feet celebrations?

I will watch a replay because I love my club. But I won’t watch live and support Gil’s Frankenstein. It’s stupid and pointless and if an AFL player never tests positive for COVID-19 I’d be staggered, but relieved. Go Pies, but this no crowd, elbow tap, make it up as we go shit is so stupid.

But, as always... GO PIES!
It's a shame Hammer, you missed a damn entertaining game. The players clearly were pumped to be playing. What the team song at the end- says it all.

Bit of both.....I was excited when I saw the boys belt out the song at the end of the game....but I felt the first two games have been a bit bruise free

Grundy and our centre clearance work was first class.
Tyler had a great debut and geez i love his brother.
Mayne, Adams, Scotty all very good.
Thought Noble was very handy and Mihocek just brilliant.
A bit of Daicos magic.....this game had it all.

I wonder how the people who don't want this season to go ahead feel?
Go Pies!
Really happy for you in particular fuzz. You were prepared to state your opinion that you wanted the season to at least start, against the tide in this forum.
I understand that our society (and the whole globe) is under adversity like we haven't had in many, many years, but the traits I consider to be Australian - pluck, spirit and fortitude - seem to have gone missing. Our Pies just had a great win - first in the opening round for some time - and so very few are rejoicing in that. Well, stuff it, I'm happy - for just a few hours in a horrid few weeks, I'm feeling a little joy.

As you say fuzz, go Pies!!!!
Cheers PP.
I can understand there are people who don't want this season to go ahead. That's fair enough, but I'm not prepared to give it up just yet.
What last night shows, i think, is that watching the Pies win for 4 points is good, no matter the circumstances. I hope a few of the people who have given up on it, realise that there is still some joy to gain from this messed up situation. We don't know for how long, but lets hope we can play next week and smash the Tigers.
I'll support the seaon as long as the players are happy to keep playing. Watching them last night, I think the Pies are invested like never before.

It may not be perfect but it’s better than more repeats of Friends. And I’ve finished the 17-season box set of Air Crash Investigations, so footy is essential.

Two things I liked about watching Collingwood play Footscray last night:
1) The sound of the game;
2) The absence of Brian Taylor.

Well, 4 points, 4-quarter effort, no passengers, no injuries.
That's all the variable boxes ticked, which the football gods normally delight in denying us most weeks of a season.

The rest of the bullshit is out of our control.

Reminded me a little of round 1, 2010 vs. Welfare, but minus the crowd.
Hope that is a good omen in itself.

Let's just keep the positive yap up on the forum, that the players ALL stay virus-free, and hope this one small joy in our lives isn't quarantined as well.

ps. Did the maggots give Footscray EVERY goal they scored, or was that just me?

I don’t actually have it - but I did see it in JB yesterday at Highpoint West and I put it on my list. It was 7,004 minutes. What a gun show that is.

Also, TP, I have all of West Wing and have watched it so often, I have memorised the lines. But it’s a good idea - I might watch it again and pretend that John Goodman has taken over for Trump.

Anyway, how good was Tyler Brown?

Grundy's Forward Work vs Dogs don't get a Mention but I thought it was worth Mentioning as he looked like someone who could Kick 1-2 Goals a Game.

Adds another String to Grundy's Bow
