I'm not sure he'll play much of a midfield role, given we have JDG, Naicos, Pendles, Sidey, Crisp and Allan as our preferred mids.

Who knows, we might even land a gun player like Houston.

With Noble gone I suspect Perryman will mainly be used as a running defender, more like an upgrade on Markov. Then again, he may surprise and prove to be a gun midfielder.

I suspect Perryman will push past Pendles and Sidey and demand a midfield role or at least I hope so. We are in trouble if we need to rely on Pendles or Sidey they should really only be a support cast.

The money that has been reported to be attached to this signing!
Does this make Perryman our highest payed player?
Makes me very nervous. I understand having to pay overs for free agent, but we are not talking about an A grade player. To have that amount of money allocated to an average player worries me. Reminiscent of the Grundy situation and also Treloar.
Hope Leppitsch knows what he is doing!

There's been evidence of anchoring bias when assessing a player's contact value. That's understandable given the Total Player Payments limit was $10.071 million in 2015 and $10.36 million in 2016.
The TPP as agreed within the CBA from 2023 to 2024, rose from $15.02 million to $15.79 million, a reasonable jump. but from 2024 to 2025, the TPP makes a huge leap to $17.76 million, one of the biggest year-on-year rises we've ever seen.

In 10 years, that's a 76% increase in the TPP.
Clubs have been permitted to have a minimum of 37 players and a maximum of 44 players on their books.
If it was 37, that's an average of $480k, 44 it'd be $403k.

We were all surprised by the compo picks for Battle, but with such a large TPP pool, no wonder it inflated his value.

So, have we paid overs for Perryman at rumoured $950k? Possibly, but it needs to be in context of what we needed to do to lure him away from GWS.
With any change of workplace offer, if you can't find another 25% for a 'required' employee, then the motivation to move soon comes to a halt.

Well the Saints president blew his stack recently over F/S particularly Brisbane and Ashcroft x 2. Maybe this was a little sweetener for them.

The money is reputed, we dont know as fact, and as I mentioned in another post it may include total bonuses.. or potential earnings.

If 950,000 is base pay, as per standard practice it will increase in line with TPP, we can expect he will always remain in the highest tier for the term of his contract.

If we think about it, that's a fair percentage of our TPP ... he loves Collingwood, and wants to play more in the middle. Doesn't sound like a total money grab.

IMO, It may be true if it's frozen for a period, or is front loaded, or includes bonuses.

...
The Age reckon it's $850k, not $950k.

Still sounds like a lotta dough. And the contract length for both Harry and Dan is long...
