This should be in the what made me sad today thread,...but there isn't one.
There was a man who lived in this town for the last 50 years.
He owned the local supermarket, was active in the CFA and SES.
His real passion was raising Clydesdales and was active in nearly every community event (he even drove his team to Echuca for a steam rally 6 months ago. It took him and his wife about month to get there and back on the dray.
Every year he and his family would dress as Santa and his helpers and give awae $1000's dollars of prizes to anybody that had spent more than $10 in the last 6 months. H(He'd just wear the suit, he had the white beard, white hear and ruddy cheeks and smile of the best of father Christmas.
I saw him last Sundae at Talbot market (he was giving ppl free rides).
He stopped when he saw me and we had a 5 min talk about olde milk and cream tins and what-not, I waved him good-bye but didn't see him again.
He went missing last monday and 2 days ago they found his body in the back paddock with his horses and a single shot-gun wound to the head.
I don't know why he did this (it was no accident) and probably never will, but I do know he was was a wonderful man and he was my friend.
I met this man only 3 years ago when I first came to this town and he took my under his wing after some chats on his wagon as we'd ride round town.
I called him a friend ever since.
I hope he is resting in peace.
I miss him already.
I hope what-ever plagued you is forgotten.
Good bye Bruce.
I'm tearing up
I have to go and break-in a new axe on some very old hardwood.

I'm utterly gobsmacked by the news of corruption in the CMFEU.

Seriously, who would have thunk that there would be bribery, corruption, secret deals with organised crime designed to help others cash in on their closed shop in the construction industry.
Utterly shocked.
