Cameron's been great, but has dropped away during the back end of this season.
Grundy has two more years of decent footy. Do we risk keeping him for those two and then carrying him for 3 more. I think it's the out years that are the worry.
We can carry Grundy for his last 2 years. Pinch hit him in the ruck and occasionally park him at front to stretch the opposition's defence.

^ not a bad idea, but he'd need to get better with his contested marking. He has taken only 158 contested marks in 177 games.
Gawn has taken 367 in 181 games.
Also, Cameron and Cox take more contested marks than Grundy.

Does anyone think that Grundy would not have made it back if he wanted to?
C'mon, Goldy came back from an ACL is hardly less time

Only if he played well. There wasn’t much evidence of that in the last 2 years. Our wins since Freo in WA were without Grundy. Grundy barely takes a contested mark; Cox took 5 last week alone. Grundy at his best is a definite plus. Indeed the SCG would probably suit him. So it’s all speculation.
Best to ignore whatsinaname: she’s trying to get a rise out of you. Nice to hear from you DTM.
It's 2022 mate. It's not a remotely funny or clever to call a male a female as some sort of insult. And don't come back with some lame excuse. You knew exactly what you were doing.

We've been carrying him for 3 and it took us all the way to the ass end of the ladder, so it's highly optimistic that he will turn good for any of his remaining 5 years...
I'm also sure the coach knows if he has to carry him for the rest of his contract then Grundy will outlast the coach so he'll be determined to make sure that doesn't happen.

What an interesting thread this has become.
The fact is, Grundy is a very good player. But his contract is the concern.
I think what will determine peoples view on this all will depend on what the return is and how much of his contract we're paying... oh and which club he gets to.
If we got a top 10 pick or a high quality player in return and we weren't paying a large chunk of his contract, I think that would change a few minds.

100%.
Grundy is a good/very good player but I think most people, current football department included, agree that he is not worth the money that the previous administration contracted him for.
This is a large and long term noose around the clubs neck and imho he will be asked to take a pay cut for the opportunity of team success. If he refuses, which he has every right to, he will undoubtedly be traded.

He isn't "after the money". He has a contract that the Club is obliged to meet.
What would your position be if you were on a 5-year contract under which you'd be paid $900K a year and your new boss came in and said that the finance department had decided to introduce new budgeting arrangements, so they couldn't keep you on more than $600K?
I can't remember being paid such trivial sums - but I imagine most people who are employees for a living would think that was a bit average and might tell the finance department where it could put its budget?

Giving it the big one are we moneybags? Or was that tongue in cheek?
I don't want to re-examine the entrails of the deal, but the comparison you make is off the mark. He knows full well that having a successful team means a balanced salary cap. Many, many players reneg their deals to assist the club (your mate Treloar being a prime example), but Grundy appears unwilling to do so.

His output isn’t reflective his salary and that’s where the problem lies.
The club will not tolerate mediocre output from their highest paid player.
It’s a tough business and somewhat different to other employment situations.
Football clubs are bound by salary caps which makes the contractual situations different to someone in a 9-5 job where no such caps exist which enable employers to engage other people to improve their performance without being constrained by league regulations.

Whatever or whoever is initiating the trade talks, next week is the week Brody, Jordan and Oliver need to talk to the club and tell them what they want. This week even. Make it loud and clear, don’t let it drag on past the GF.

Oh, slangman, I forgot - football isn’t a multi-billion dollars business and the players should be grateful to be paid. Time for you to live in the universe we inhabit, I reckon.

I think we can safely say the players who are ( about to be ) out of contract like Henry, DeGoey and McStay will have their preferred destinations made public very shortly now that their respective clubs campaigns have finished.
In the case of Grundy, I’m expecting it to remain drawn out because he is in contract. As soon as you have multiple parties striving to achieve consensus, the longer these things tend to drag out Should any Grundy trade unfold, it may also require certain dominoes to fall first, so that adds yet another layer to the wait on his future.
Conversely, for those who are uncontracted, the decision generally rests entirely in their hands. Buckle up, it’s going to be an interesting trade period !
