I enjoyed the night, but the one thing I came away with was this - on a beautiful Sydney winter's night, in that great stadium, against the best and most popular football club in the country, the Swans could only draw 38,000. Based on that, how on earth does Demetriou believe that GWS will be able to draw any more than 10,000 a game? How can that be sustainable as a business model?

From the start of this whole Greater Waste of Space business, I always thought a second team in Sydney was absolute folly, and last night confirmed that without question. The Fat Controller is going to piss away a large amount of that billion dollar TV deal just keeping those guys afloat, and that's nothing less than a disaster for the game overall.

Serious question, what is the actual profit from TV v gate attendances? Maybe el wappo has calculated this and figured TV profits will dominate and he doesnt even care about attendances for new teams.

The one great thing about holding on for a win last night was this.

The Scum didn't go to second place on the ladder.

Had we lost we'd be stuck on 40 points, and with a win today the Blooze would go to 42 points.

looking at their draw and ours it could easily happen if we dont get a wriggle on.
I think we are capable of playing 6 goals better than the blues best however I also think they are now at their best and we are a way off it yet.

I was out last night so did not see the game live,however I knew the result. Watching the replay I thought we looked in control the first half and thought we were on top of Sydney. Was quite entertaining.
Was shocked at some of the easy misses in front of goal...Apart from that, some of the clangers in the second half were even more shocking. Could not believe Pendles kicking backwards to the Swans to give them an easy goal. Steele was running into goal and looked so indecisive that he sprayed the kick. He ignored Daisy and I'm not surprised, seeing Daisy did not want to take that shot on goal earlier. Some strange things happening. Still in the end,I hope this is a good wake up call for the next challenge. I bet there will be some money for the Hawks this week. The Pies will have to be at their best.

a very poor performance last night by the Pies but to their credit they were good enough to ground out a win. Sydney never slipped away and pushed us all night. We've had it pretty easy up until now so maybe this was the test our boys needed. Still, there is no excuse for such deplorable kicking in front of goal especially when you dominate possession and control the ball for long periods of time in the forward line. Our back half stood up when it counted. That spoil by Tarrant in the 4th saved a certain goal. Daisy needs to practice his kicking for goal. He was woeful. Cloke is a machine and is improving week in week out. Dawes isn't right. He fades in and out of games too much but is still a strong presence up forward. Needs to do more. Our fringe players didn't do enough. I'm sure they'll rest Didak next week. He hasn't been right for some time now anyway. Big test next week. They'll have buddy back as well so it'll be interesting to see how we match up on him.

I watched the game last night and reckon we were crap. Mick Malthouse had every right to look pissed off. Our lads got lazy and arrogant. Some of our so called stars were a disgrace! Thomas needs a kick up the bum for taking shots at goal that he could not have possibly scored with late in the game instead of passing to others. The Ten Commentators were still egging Sydney on which was also a disgrace. Their bias is shocking. Good Bye and get lost. Our win over Sydney should have been much greater. Time to drop a few now. Angry Hiss frothing!

Please hurry up and come back Jolly... Cameron Wood is not up to it, and that is putting it mildly. Last night he was soo poor. Even when he got the tap out, it was to a swans player and he can't take a contested mark to save himself... Very disappointing.

Pretty much how I feel. We could have won by atleast 10 goals. The misses were awful. Some horrible mistakes later on in the game. We just went to sleep in the last half. We were flat and tired in the last half, hopefully only a side effect of the bye. Hopefully the match review panel aren't in a bad mood this week....................................................

I've been saying it all season, but 2011 is the turning point for AFL crowds. Cost factors and TV saturation will end up killing live attendances. Dimmy wants it as a TV sport anyway.

Gold Coast can only draw 16,000. Hawthorn only gets that number in Launceston. North will get less in Hobart and barely draw 18,000 in Melbourne. Port only has 20,000 supporters.

Even our crowds are down.

While Wood was seriously outbodied last night by Seaby who has been playing very well for them Wood did do a few good things, check the replay. Had we kicked straight & applied more pressure via our mids & fwds this would not be highlighted as much.

Certainly Jolly is needed back, no question. But Wood is not to blame for our inaccuracy, relative lack of tackling pressure & less contested possessions overall.

In a wider or longer term perpective I reckon he has been progressing but loses out against the bigger bodied ruckman. Remember Wood is only 23 or 24, very young for a Ruckman. Seaby was no dominating influence when he was of a similar age.

Possibly our crowds are down because the opposition supporters aren't bothering to turn up to watch games they have no chance of winning - I think the Collingwood supporter attendances may be up. I haven't looked at the figures but that's my impression from attending the games.
