Looks very much like Wood's card is marked and he'll go next year. When we went with Pendles and others 3rd man up a few weeks ago when we could have played Wood, that was the end I think. Having said that, Bux may confound all experts and give him one last go just to ease the burden on Jolly before the GF.
I think Paine is certainly an option + we should be able to back our midfield in at centre bounces in another low scoring game (12 v 9 goals in Rd 20) + we can put Brown, Goldy et al up at boundary throw ins.
We've improve heaps since then through the inclusion of Johnno, Krak, Dids, who I don't think played against Swans + Swan and Goldy were also out injured or 'rested' for brain fade.
Don't think it will be a close as the naysayers and Pie haters in the press are saying

A good thing the game wasn't played today then .Beast wrote:it will be an absolute madness to play Dawes, he couldn't even move at today's recovery session.RudeBoy wrote:Read my lips....no changes.
Franklin came up for last year's Prelim under similar circumstances. We'll just have to wait and see.
Well done boys!

I'm not rating him based on that game (though he was terrible) I'm rating him based on his career and capabilities. He's simply not able to play as a second ruck. Dawes's worst form this year is far better than playing Wood in that position, as Wood's simply not capable of playing the role.<3didak wrote:If we brought in wood he's probably served better resting in back half in the hole infront of leading forwards 2bh, regardless wood is our only option if dawes doesn't pull up, can't really rate wood on his performance against a rampaging nic nat and coxBeast wrote:Jolly/Wood ruck combo shits all over Jolly/Dawes and considering we got nothing out of Dawes as a forward during the year I stand by my previous post.AN_Inkling wrote: Are you like Spain and think we'd have been better off missing the eight?
Neither Wood or Jolly can play forward. Play them both and we'd have one of them forward for almost the entire game. They'd just be getting in the way.
Wood is not good enough to relegate Jolly to second ruck. We'd be shooting ourselves in the foot by not playing our best first ruck and playing a poor forward who can't run. A double mistake.
I'm not a Wood hater. When given a proper chance he's been a decent first ruck. He's well behind Jolly though. And neither Jolly or Wood is a forward/ruck.
The forward/ruck role is 80% or more a forward role. So, the most important thing is to have someone who can play forward. In the modern game that requires more running and mobility than either Jolly or Wood are capable of. So Paine's our only option if Dawes is out. For the 10-15% of the game that Jolly's not rucking, we simply make do with whoever. Losing the odd ruck contest is not going to cost us the game. Completely messing up the structure of our forward line will.
If Wood had games behind him and we had to play him as first ruck, I'd be comfortable enough. He's a decent first ruck (though he seems to have gone backwards a bit this year). Without games behind him (as now), I'd be nervous about playing him as first ruck. Under almost no circumstances should he be considered for forward/second ruck.
Well done boys!
If no Dawes and Didak, then Wood (like him or not) and Paine as another tallish option. We have to roll the dice against Swans and then possibly show the Dawks they have something to think about should we win as at the moment they believe they pretty much have us covered.
The only other thing that could happen is instead of Paine, stick Brown or Harry in the forward line and introduce another runner. Leave Tarrant in defence full stop.
Somehow Bucks has to play a team that will beat the Dawks. That team will account for Swans.
