Collingwood versus Carlton head to head wins

Post by magpieazza »

This has caught me by total surprise and Im even debating that the figures could be wrong.

Up until this season I was sure that we needed to win both games against Carlton to be within striking distance for 2020!!

On Wiki Coll v Carl head to head it states Coll have 128 wins and Carl 127 wins

On another Wiki site -Coll overall head to head against all teams we have 126 wins against Carlton 127.

Someone has entered wrong info and I think we all need to know the right info.

We have only one game against them in a season for the first time in ages too which doesnt help the cause to get ahead of them.

AFL tables:

126 W 4 D 127 L

The win-loss records against Brisbane & WC are worse!

Looks like AFL Tables is a creditable source so now we know for sure.

Good old Wiki has to be updated. Thanx for that K.

AFL tables will be correct because it is a stats site and the win loss records are built up from the individual game results.

I've been keeping track of this for years... years and years... Since the internet was a thing.

Before that we had those old stat books with every game ever played.

This is the closest we've been to Carlton since I've started watching this. 1 win away from tying the head-to-head ledger. 1 win! We have certainly had the better of them since the turn of the millennium.

But each loss would mean we'd need an extra 2 wins to make up for it. So we'd get close and then drop one, putting us back another season for a chance to catch up. There was a time where we were over 20 down and it'll be a sweet day to pass them.

In 2020 we can finish the season equal. We can do the same with the Lions which has also taken over 15 years to get close. Against the WCE, it's been close the whole time. The three losses in 2018 put us back, but we have two chances in 2020, and if we win both, we'll be one behind them. Port are close too, we're up by 1. Messed up a few recently to put us further in front.

So yeah, I'll be praying a little bit extra for wins against Carlton, 2 against Lions and 2 against WCE, which would have us in front or equal with everyone apart from WCE who's be up by 1... and we could still meet them in the finals.

And yeah, AFL tables is the best thing on the net. And I have a life, I swear.

None of it matters until we beat Carlton in a Grand Final.
We've not done that in more than 100 years.

They haven't done it in 38, so I guess that's something to cling on to.

Way way way back prolly around the 1960,s Collingwood had beaten every VFL club more times than they beaten Collingwood and closest then was Scum 64 to us 66 (that’s pretty close MW)

And as for Vic Park it was well into 50,s that sides like StKilda ,North and Hawthorn won a game there
I'm not arguing--just explaining why i am right

We dropped behind a long way during the 90's.

What has been the win/loss since 2000?

Played close to 40 times and we probably have won at least 66% of the time I would have thought.
