A nice, balanced comment. +1PyreneesPie wrote:Let's put some perspective on this.
A very, very inexperienced team, missing a lot of our top players, either injured or out of form - Swanny, Varcoe, Elliott, Ramsay, Langdon, Adams, Cloke. Two six-day breaks and a trip to Perth thrown in.
We're officially now in a development year. Absolutely nothing to be gained by switching coaches now and creating even more disunity and lack of cohesion.

All Buckley has "developed" is a squad of ball slaughterers!PyreneesPie wrote:Let's put some perspective on this.

Mate, with all due respect, I don't thin the scum are at ground zero of a rebuild, they brought in a few GWS guys who could not get a game there, aside from a couple of players, today was as good as it gets for them. When you have twelve guys in with less than 25 games each, which is us, its bloody hard, and when you have guys out like varcoe, taylor adams, Elliott, and swannie, its got to have some affect. Look, I agree Bucks is in strife, like Hardwick, the buck stops with bucks for sure. If he has to go, then my choice would be Bomber Thompson, who ticks all boxes, but time will tell, maybe Bucks can turn things around, but its a big ask, and time is running out for him fast. Maybe he should have played Cloke today, if fit, but does clokes vfl form warrant a berth in the senior team, that remains to be seen.Flashman wrote:Yeah there is.PyreneesPie wrote:Let's put some perspective on this.

Buckley isn't going to coach beyond this year and keeping him in charge is only going to further erode the players already shot confidence. We are disgraceful and still getting worse and the players aren't benefitting or developing at all from Buckley's tutelage, whatever that is.. A new voice, all be it in a care taker role will at least be a new message, a new mindset and a paradigm shift from the flawed plan they are receiving and it will at least offer the players an alternative from this soul destroying style of play they are failing to play to. Who knows maybe some of them will remember how to enjoy their football again.
It really can't get any worse than this. Smashed by a side that is at ground zero of their rebuild. Seriously this is the absolute nadir of the "succession plan" There are no winners today for this club. We are officially destroyed, divided and without hope.

Let me set the record straight - You slagged off Buckley for not playing Cloke today. But Cloke is not even playing VFL today, so he is obviously not right to play at all.

Excuses such as injuries, inexperienced players etc are lame by now. Against Sydney we had no injuries, yet our play was just as bad as now. Carlton were bottom of the ladder last year, yet they are now playing with a clearly defined style and game plan under a brand new coach. We have had our coach now for 5 years, and commentators everywhere are unable to discern what our game plan is.
Our midfield impact is non-existent. We are getting routinely smashed in the midfield -clearances, stoppages. We are unable to set up proper defensive structures, because we are playing some kind of zone that no one appears to understand, and because our midfield is being decimated. No pressure on the contested ball means our defence is constantly under the hammer.
Buckley rebuilt our team by going out and recruiting an armada of midfielders. Clearly, his perspective was to establish an ascendant midfield. Instead, we have an impotent midfield. the key question is why. It is not the ability of our players: last year their tackling pressure and ferocity on the contested ball was outstanding. The diabolical contest in the games against Freemantle and Hawthorn last year appeared was inspiring, and appeared to herald a great future for our team. That now seems like a distant, faint memory.
Likewise our forward line is suffering from a lack of decisive supply from the midfield. Our transition of the ball is abysmally slow and haphazard, allowing the opposition ample time to set up and stymie our forward thrusts.
Bizarre selections, like the ones for today's game, have the potential to disorient our team. The continued omission of Cloke today was insane. While it is not clear that we would have won had he played (due to our impotent midfield) the total absence of marking power in our forward 50 is an indictment.
Omitting Brown, and all his experience, in defence was another bizarre and harmful decision.
There is something horribly wrong. I don't believe it is due to the calibre of our players. I believe it is due to how they are being coached to play.

That doesn't excuse the apparent lack of effort in that game, but it is simply incorrect to say we had "no injuries".

I made no such foolish comments! Ba humbug!
Why don't i just go throw myself off the nearest bridge, for missing the memo that said Cloke withdrew from the VFL?
Seriously, nor did I hear any mention of it on the ch.Muppet broadcast today on TV.
Apologies again for not running my life around the CFC website, or this forum for injury updates, 24/7!

Let's face it we're too slow. Most of our players couldn't run out of sight on a dark night. But the question that needs to be asked is why does Buckley and Hine keep recruiting slow players who can't kick?Aish being the latest example.I can't believe we gave up two second round picks for him.Shocking list management.

What I find interesting is that we were told we were in a rebuild phase three years ago. Then two years ago more of the same. And after five years of Buckley we've rebuilt exactly what?
Obviously the club has been decimated by injuries this season. But that shouldn't be an excuse. Other clubs seem to manage when their stars go down. No, what this has been is Eddie McGuire's grand experiment. And it has failed dismally. Nathan was excellent in the media and maybe that's his calling. But in his stewardship as head coach of the club, what exactly has he displayed to indicate he was a guy that could deliver premierships? And that's the bottom line, isn't it? Does anyone, even the Buckley apologists, truly, honestly believe that Collingwood will win a premiership with Nathan Buckley as head coach? And if no one really thinks he is the man to do that, what is the point in continuing with this charade?
