It's wrong you have to play a game on a Wednesday and then reload for a game on the Sunday. Richmond may have played on the Tuesday night, but that still represents an extra day's recovery time. Forget the last quarter when we ran out of legs. We more than matched it with the premiership team, but we have a lot to learn if we want to play finals. We need a bit more muscle to play the top teams. We need to stop the smart arse tactics some of our players use such as handballing under the legs of opposition players (take note Sidey) and we need to employ more discipline against the top teams and not give away easy goals which we work so hard to avoid. Appleby was good today in his first game. Murray and Stephenson don't make mistakes in their first year so why do senior players like Maynard and Dunn stuff up through lack of discipline or lack of application or whatever reason. If we want to play finals we need to suppress our natural instincts for revenge when things don't go our way and play as a team. Individuals need to make sacrifices for the team. At times we did it today but other times we let ourselves down. I hate to say it but Richmond know how to handle the pressure and suppress their individual desires for the sake of the team. We need to do the same.

We totally ran out of legs just before 3qtr time. I was very proud. There is so much improvement coming. The four day break on top of that. Richmond have no injuries and have had a settled team for two years.
Totally agree, very well put.
Premier with full team against bottom 8 team(last year) with 5 players out

A one eyed Tiger fan, whom I chat a fair bit on Twitter, who goes every week, said we had a red hot go for 3 qtrs, we were brave, and have improved a lot from last season. Admitted we ran outa legs, 3 day break, and having 7 of our most creative players sidelined, did affect us. AND THATS from a devout Tiger fan, so there ya go.!

The margin in the end certainly wasn't a true indication of the game but even at half time when in front I felt we were playing catch up football and the weight of forward half possession in favour of Richmond would eventually prove to much.

Sure enough once we lost Aish and were down a rotation it compounded our 4 day break, we fatigued at a greater rate and despite a valiant effort the damn wall finally burst in the last.

But take heart we matched it with the competition yardstick for the best part of 3/4 quarters despite a few players being noticeably down on output and we certainly have more upside in terms of personnel that can return.

Richmond have 1 player on there injury list so outside shuffling the deck chairs not much gain will be had for them.

We on the other hand could potentially have up to 6 players who will improve our talent level out on the ground.

Always disappointing to lose but this game was played with finals like pressure and under the circumstances I thought it was a performance of merit.

Now though we must make sure we consolidate our 3-3 start with a win against a poor Brisbane side. Unlike today a win is the only acceptable outcome.

Hard to say what impact such a short break has, but watching the game it seemed to be significant and worsened by the loss of Aish.

For most of the game we were very competitive. The defence performed excellently, though Richmond let us off with a lot of easy missed goals. We still moved the ball quite well and never really got stuck in our backline. Cox looked good early but unfortunately we couldn't get him into a marking contest enough. Think he might have competed for 1 mark inside 50 in the second half.

Felt that Treloar and Phillips were our best today, Howe not far behind. de Goey seemed to have a shocker, barely an impact other than a nice goal. Only 9 touches. Blair played his role and did it well, Mayne had a similar impact to Crocker.
Well done boys!

Wells played great last week in the VFL.
He is always a week to week proposition.
He will never be fully fit.
Faz can be a match winner or a dud....we all know that.
But you don't admit that on their days something special could have happened.
Clearly Wells and Faz would have been a better combination.
Because there was an outside chance that they could have dominated.
But with Blair and Mayne had almost zero chance of making a decent impact.
But that is just my opinion.
