great to see the comments this morning - Loved the win. People who aren't happy with last night need some time on a couch.
Just have to say I suggested that Elliot might get dropped before the game as he wasn't making a transition to the midfield. Boy am I eating crow and it couldn't taste better.
Regarding Cox - I agree with earlier comments in that he was important for us last night and had a better game than normal - congrats.
Wrapped with our young debutantes and IQ - they did more than could be hoped for.
It really looked like they were enjoying the contest last night.

We shall set our course by the stars and not ships that pass in the night
With Jeremy H out for a fair while the young Quaynor I feel will fill a role in defence thus softening the loss & with Langdon building his fitness our backs will virtually be unmarred by JH on the sidelines
With JDG,Sidebottom ( & Daicos) to slot in our midfield has depth
Last night with the tryout of Stevo up the field and Billy doing midfield grunt work even more power in mid
I think the forwards are the area we need work to be done. Adequate but could be better

Great first half. Disappointing second half. We need to play fiur quarters if we are toi be GF contenders. Cox: not good enough that he takes two or three defenders away from our little guys. With his height he should be marking everything that comes his way, instead he fumbles and rarely marks. Not sure he deserves a place in our best 22. Good on all the young kids. Well done. And good luck to Kelly with his injury. Don't know about Stephenson in defence. We need goal kickers up forward.. Not sure what his stats were, but seemed to me to have few touches. Finally, does anyone out there know the true stories about Sidebottom and DeGoey? If so, please let the rest of us know.

Rugby players are awesome at ground balls, they have played low since birth. Where they can often they struggle is in extending their arms upwards to mark overhead [but I mean, so does Pendles to be fair]. But they are very hard at the contest and get their bodies in the right position to protect themselves. Atu looked like a player last night, I can't wait to see him do a shirtfront tackle ala a Byron Pickett coz I reckon he might have that in him, too.Pies2016 wrote:As for Atu, I was shocked at how well a 20 year old rugby convert could handle the the ball on debut. Early days but it looks like another very astute late pick from Hine.
Get back on top.

Waking up the morning after a win is much better.
We had a horrid fortnight, but we're back on the winners list.
Without knowing the upcoming fixture, it's hard to look to far ahead. But at least we can take it one week at a time. And we still have not played anyone below 11th on the ladder.

A Goal Saved Is 2 Goals Earned!
For the geelong match ill omit cox, phillips and maybe wills too. I just hope Kelly is ok but he will be back in 3 weeks at best i feel. Bring in jdg, sier and maybe have a punt on dunn returning too.
Again i feel we need to consolidate last night win and our place in the top 4 and winning in perth v cats will ensure this.
IQ looks great always though of this of IQ too very quick and smart kick and can double as a mid fielder too. Atu B reminds me of a young varcoe when varcoe in his early days at geelong that is. Solid perfomance again moore and miohcek finally had a good match. Good to see bucks mixing it up too more of that please. Something isnt right with jamie elliott i feel hes under another injury cloud but i hope im wrong. Cox has to go hes a liability nowadays the usa novalty has well and truely worn off.
I think trealor is starting to hit his straps too and adams too. Wills and Phillips are too slow and look un fit Wills is over weight. Another player thats out of form is Crisp hes not right and can not mark and can not deal with any pressure too many fumbles by him. Mayne was quiet too.
Big match next thursday perth.
Got pies to win this one by 15 points.

Yep agree with both. Stat sheet don’t tell the whole storyMagpietothemax wrote:I agree totally. Particulary with how we played tonight. The space in our F50 made us look much more dangerous than in previous weeks. Cox is a major threat to opposition defences, and if we are focussed on exploiting space, as we were tonight, we will be very dangerous in F50. I know our score was still low, but tonight we looked far more likely to score and far more aggressive in F50 than in most of our games.kymbo5@yahoo.com.au wrote:Mason Cox - In my opinion I thought he was really important tonight. Played his role, giving them structure, taking 2 defenders, making space for Checkers to lead into and when they did kick to him, he brought it to ground.
Getting an early free kick and goal meant Dawks players had to change their tactics knowing they couldnt get away with those tactics thru the night, scene was set by umpires putting defenders under pressure.
No Cox means less headaches for most opposition.
...and by the way, the ability to exploit this space was also the result of our much improved ball movement, and willingness to go through the corridor much more frequently.

Great game. Not heaps to add to what's already been said. IQ is in a league of his own among the kids. He reminded me of Jimmy Clement with his penetrating kicking, let's hope his bodywork is as good too.
In the spirit of cleaning up our act RE racism and race relations around the club, just want to point out that every single comment made about Atu has compared him to another black player. Not the biggest deal in the world, but something to be conscious of

Yep. And if you drop the ball forward in rugby it's a knock on and you lose possession. Rugby players have great hands compared to most aussie rules playersCam wrote:Rugby players are awesome at ground balls, they have played low since birth.
