Goldstein to Geelong.....Grundy to North to be coached by Clarkson and North have pick 1 and 2 so can trade one of those.

Didn’t McRae say on radio today with Grundy we were top 4 in centre bounces and now we are 18th. Sounded like he wants him staying.

I have no doubt Mason turned that game purely through presence at the clearances. It was too congested for Cameron to impact as usual, and Coxy could use his height and new-found bulk (which I reckon has gone unnoticed; it doesn't take much bulk at that height to make a difference). He didn't even need any stats to go along with that effort, which was crucial to breaking their run of easy clearances.
My observation was that Cox used his brain more than any bulk. With a seriously congested pack around the ball up he used his height advantage to whack the ball forward out of the congestion.

Yes, it's risky as reality is it could go anywhere, but it's inline with the current team ethos of taking risks and it got the ball away from the roaming maul. Smart play.
I reckon they go together. As a latecomer to the game his smarts are really developing but the bulk means opponents can't simply nudge him out the way anymore. And you're right, that worked with the chaos approach.

He could be a serious weapon again come finals time. The attrition of the position means a month of top football from that sort of player is worth every one of a midfielder's home-and-away Brownlow votes. Clarke Keating comes to mind, as does his own 2018 finals impact.

Indeed he did. Fortunately, McRae isn't distracted by salary envy, finding scapegoats, and reliving 2019 forum arguments. Instead, he's able to focus on getting the most out of the team.

We won 2 out of the first 5 games this year.
not a ringing endorsement for Grundy

He is our best ruckman, best tap ruck to advantage and best clearance ruckman. He is better around the ground especially and ground level and can run to receive like an extra mid.
Rendell literally said he should go to the Dees so they would have Gawn and Grundy.......But we couldn't fit Cameron and Grundy in ?
Ifs a friggen joke the crap we put up with.

Why do you give that up for a perceived $100-$200k a year too much. Thats a first year player salary.

Degoey Ironically could very well have done us a favour salary wise and if he wants to stay where he feels most comfortable then a reduced or heavily incentivised contract would work.

McStay then a free agent - not that Im sold on him but he can play forward and back which could open other opportunity's for us.

Taranto we get trading our late first round pick which is what he is worth. His skill level and age profile fits us perfectly.
Good objective summation. Anyone that wants to see Grundy out the door, receive my scorn.

The prospect of Grundy / Cameron double has me fizzing at the bunghole. Cox provides invaluable injury security as a 3rd option.

JDG on a reduced contract and the inclusion of Taranto would be a dream. Taranto is a true Centre, able to run both ways. JDG is a forward of Centre player, where he is his most damaging.
While not exactly transparent how we'd fit a player of his calibre into our cap, maybe the exit of Roughead plays into it.
Taylor Adams will likely go on a yearly contract post 2024, and given he'll hit 30 years of age, and Sidey might have only one more year in him, there's likely cap relief in the wings. Nick Daicos' contact ends in 2025, post which he could we see him the highest paid under 25 player in the competition.

So all in all, Grundy's contract is what it is. One sub-par season after back to back AA years and the hyenas are circling. 2021 was a write off across the board for the Club so I'll give him a pass on that too. After an injury ravaged season, we haven't seen what the new coaching panel will mold him into as yet.
The bloke's a warrior, can't wait to see him back.

^ He might be a warrior but he as we all know has glaring deficiencies including:

Frees against;
Clangers;
Tapping directly to the opposition;
Inability to take contested marks; and
Not kicking enough goals

McCrae spoke of his strengths and they are good and he will never publicly speak of his deficiencies.

Cox is a weapon especially in second half of matches when the opposition is tiring.

It’s a dilemma.

But to be fair,we did have a harder draw then.We played Geelong and the Brisbane Lions at the Gabba(when we were without most of our forward line)

With Grundy we were 3-3 and had two very competitive losses against Lions and Cats. Not as bad as some are saying. 2 of our 3 bad losses Grundy did not play.

I like MJ23's post and agree with you sentiments, I too am excited by the prospect of having two very good and versatile ruckmen in the one team......perhaps not quite as excited as you though LH :)

Yet he played in the worst loss of the season for any club and that Geelong game was an absolute shocker given how far in front we were.

Sounds like Grundy will play a VFL game before returning to the seniors. That would have him returning to take on Gawn at the G.
