Closer.... still need to see if Riccardi elects to stay at GWS, and whether or not Wallis and/or Caddy need a change of environment too.
Otherwise, it's another bottom four finish in 2022, punctuated with mostly honourable losses, from an undersized list.
Dont mind Wallis
For me its either Ricardi or Kreuger not both. We need games into Begg, Johnson, McMahon and Henry.
Also, it dont matter much who we have up front if our mid depth isnt strong and settled - just by the lack of games experience for our elite talent alone plus a new coach/game plan suggests Bottom 4 is gonna be about right.
Okay - so two of either Kreuger / Brander / Riccardi, would give us sufficient spinal structure to build around.
I'm also counting on a full VFL season to allow Begg, McMahon and perhaps Henry, to develop in. The reality is, they are simply too light at present.
Johnson should be able to take the immediate impact of AFL, and really should have been left in SANFL comp to maintain his 2021 form AFTER we drafted him, with no VFL comp to participate in; utter madness.
Even if we do snaffle Lipinski, we need another solid bodied mid, and cheap; thus I crap on about Wallis and Caddy, and their current lack of opportunity.
Yep agree - But
I like Begg's size. i think he could be up for senior games. While they might be in and out to protect them, we still want Henry, Begg and McMahon playing senior footy.
Every single name we are talking about including the kids are unproven so there is still a huge element of speculation. That said with Daicos in this year who we do need, this is the best possible outcome for us right now.
Its why its so important to preserve our first next year - to draft an elite talent OR use for trade.

Looks like I'm in the minority on this board, but I dont share the love for Tom Wilson. I'd rather Madgen (also "coming from a long way back with a basketball background"). AFL Stats Pro has all his 'moments' synced up to the game vision here:
I think we have a lot of people on our list for whom we just dont know if they will be any good, and fresh coaching may make this guy into a star. In fairness I havent seen him at VFL much (and there hasnt been much VFL), but I dont think he's gonna get to 20 games (4 already).
^ I don't dislike Madgen as most do here. I think hes been quiet serviceable and his learning curve has still more upside.
He is 28 tho while Wilson is 24.
Wilson has dominated some VFLY games - that and where he comes from gives me hope. I really would like to see him on ball / wing. He just finds the footy at VFL level.

I should add that I didnt mean that as a diss on Madge either... Not every player can be a superstar, and I think that he is a solid toiler who has absolutely improved and contributed to the team over the last 10-15 games.

Sure; not saying they need to spend the entire 2022 season in the VFL, a few senior games in AFL might be warranted, but I don't want them gifted to them due to senior injuries, like years gone by - I'm f#cking OVER IT!.
As things stand, we simply cannot afford to have their frames mangled with too many senior games - look how unlucky Will Kelly has been to date.
I expect Nick Daicos to take a season to adapt to speed of AFL; I wouldn't expect him to jump out of the blocks like Stephenson did in 2018.
And indeed keep our 2022 round 1 pick away from lurking parasites; Hine has pissed too many against the wall in recent seasons...

Yeah in the absolute minority here but I have a feeling based on experience that Magden will surprise and be a good player. Quite a few players were given no chance of success and they proved many wrong. That is the very definition of a combination of experience, expectations and eventuality. I will stick my neck out and predict that Magden will have a good career with us.

Jumping Jack Briskey: Mobile and aggressive, we've already passed once but a new coach might take another look, named amongst the best with 3 goals for Qld

Reminds me of that famous philosopher from 1979: Judge Smails (Caddyshack) who said to caddy Danny Noonan on the fairways of Bushwood, "the world needs ditch-diggers too you know"!
Serious question, does he fill a need at Collingwood or are we after him just because he is available? I don’t know much about him to be honest. What’s his best position?
