Jack Crisp was interviewed on SEN this morning and they asked him why Stevo hadn't been getting a game. Jack said it was because they had been unhappy with his contested work and attack on the ball.

Should he be revealing that? Some of these defenders (Maynard!) say too much.

You don't think calling him soft is a good idea?

That’s pretty much what Buckley insinuated in his post match as well.
He got a pass in his first season (understandably), and to an extent his second season. But by season 3, it’s time to get your hands dirty.
Having said that, he’s not built to be a hard in and under player, and we don’t need him getting injured trying to be a ‘contested hero’ at every contest (he got a corky running back with the flight...hopefully it’s not the usual Collingwood 8-week corky).

Yes. Definitely seems to have the build and speed of an outside player but sometimes the moment demands that you put the body on the line.

Eddie Betts has carved out a very nice career based on uncontested possessions. I don't think every player needs to be an "in and under" type.
That said, Stevo does need to run a bit harder the other way. For his speed, I can't recall how many times he has run down a defender.

^ Yes, that's a frustrating aspect of his game - you see him put the after-burners on to get around the defenders for a magnificent goal at a crucial time, yesterday - but he doesn't seem to put that speed to work going the other way.

That sums it up. The “ smart “ players will understand the situation and act accordingly. When the game is still there to be won, you have to go at it, regardless.
When you’re six goals up with 5 mins to go, then you can start preserving yourself for next week.
He’s still a kid playing a mans game. If his issues are only about his lack of appetite for the contest and work ethic, then he has time to work through it.
Form is temporary but class is permanent.

True. I'm sure he'll develop into a fine player.

In 2018 he averaged 2.9 tackles a game and 1.0 tackles in F50 in 26 games.
This year slightly down at 2.2 tackles a game but same for I50 tackles from 10 games. I agree this needs to improve but it wasn’t an issue while he was kicking goals.

With game time running at 80% of previous years, all stats need to be adjusted.

Exactly. I can’t believe stats haven’t been time-adjusted to compare apples with apples. But that’s the amateur-hour that is the AFL and it’s telecast providers. Yeah, I know deep down it’s not as simple as multiplying stats by 1.25, but it’s still a better system than comparing 64-minute stats vs 80-minute stats outright.

I would say he plays like he's <snip>, but that's disrespectful to <snip - not as disrespectful as you posting like its 1952, again - Pies4shaw for BBMods> who show more courage than this peaheart.
