It seems that the company that was running the toll free number packed up, but it has supposedly been replaced by another comapny now (same phone number).
Phone cut hits Pies' drive for members
By JAKE NIALL
Collingwood's pre-season membership drive has been hurt by the mysterious disappearance of a phone-in company contracted by the club.
Collingwood, which had been selling memberships through the company on a toll-free phone number, learnt late on Wednesday that the company had ceased operating.
The Magpies had been selling memberships steadily until the company stopped answering calls to the toll-free number yesterday and for part of Wednesday because of apparent financial problems, according to Collingwood membership manager Anthony Trainor.
Trainor said yesterday the club had been unable to contact the company, which it did not wish to name for legal reasons, despite repeated calls.
One of the company's principals had told the club earlier that it was relocating and would be unable to operate the call centre for four or five days.
Trainor said the club had terminated its contract with the company yesterday, and replaced it with another call centre operator, the Simon Richards Group. The club had retained the same toll-free number, which it hoped would be operating this morning. He said people could also sign up by phoning the club directly.
Trainor acknowledged the company's problems had hurt the club's membership drive in what was traditionally the busiest selling period of the year.
He said that until Wednesday, the Magpies had been selling more than 100memberships a day through the toll-free number alone. ``Prior to that, they (the company) had been doing a good job,'' he said.
Trainor said Collingwood had now sold nearly 25,000memberships.
