Solomon to Collingwood?

Post by NICK THE PIE MAN »

I heard a rumor that due to salary cup restaints, we may see Dean Solomon leave the dark side of the force (essenscum) and end up in Collingwood colours next year.

Wow. it would be terrific if we coud get him into our team. But he'll probably have a hard time getting a start though! lol(no i shouldnt get ahead of myself, we're not that good yet...)
Nah but he is pretty good, and only 21 I believe. He would be a very handy inclusion in our young team and would fit into our midfield nicely.

So if your news is true, it is very good news indeed.

Uh... something something... mighty pies!

Heard this rumour ages ago. However, Taz and Solomon are really good mates apparently, they played junior footy together. Solomon isn't that bad a player either.

However, I thought Solomon had signed a new contract but I could be wrong.

This one is months old. Eddie read it last time and then refuted it.
Still, time will tell.

Refuted it maybey. It certainly is old but it wont go away.
I heard Collingwood is doing all it can to keep Taz happy and this may not be far fetched. I have it on very good authority that Solly's mgt has been approached by us and as it stands we are frontrunners for his services. His preference is actually collingwood if the bombers cant come to terms with him. Its likely that the bombers will relinquish one or two high profile players. Its a given. Misiti is another who has not signed as is Alessio. Misiti has been asked to take a 750000 buck paycut over 4 years. Understandably he is peeved.

If we are serious about this then Essenscum are surely going to ask for quality players or high draft picks to do a deal. Who are we prepared to trade?
If we cannot trade, will Essenscum not trade him to someone else insread of letting him go in the draft? If he goes in the draft, will he not be picked before we get a shot?
What's that music I hear in the background? Why it's the theme from "Mission Impossible"!!!

Craig, i'am of the opinion that yes we would give away a top pick or two and even possibly a player. That being the case I would not want to speculate but I think we have used the last few drafts creatively and feel if we did relinquish our round 1 one pick it would be around the 8-10 selection overall and I think it would be worth it. The bombers consequently do have cap problems its an absolute fact and I would not be suprised if they id off load a young player and opt for a higher pick given that this year they will have a round one pick around 20th overall..I cant disclose how I know but believe me when I say this is on the cards and a definate chance.

Louis, my only concern is the actual draft pick. It seems likely that 3 teams shall get priority picks. That means each of these teams pick before the 16 picks allocated for the first round. Considering that we are now looking for a top 4 finish that leaves us pick 15 - 19. (come on pick 19!)
If Soloman is available, I think that other teams will trade higher picks than 15 - 19, particularly the 3 bottom teams.
It will need more than one draft pick to secure this player.

Craig, Only one team will get priority picks at the end of the year, AFl will not allow all three clubs with less then 5 wins to get the first six picks between them.Dont underestimate the first round pick overall we will have to bargain with, keeping in mind what 'player(s)' may be offered!

louis, last year 2 teams had priority picks, and I think it happened when we had priority picks also. As I understand the rules you only need to not win more than 5 matches to qualify, no restriction on amount of teams to qualify.
It will certainly be interesting at the draft this year.
