Western Magpies club money Need your opinions guys

Post by Podiatrist »

Hi all,

As a member of the committee here for the western magpies we are interested in the opinion of our members on the purchasing of raffle tickets for our WA club.

As you may be aware, the Collingwood Football club is running the Bob Rose raffle at $200 a ticket, with the main prize being a Lexus car valued at $51,000. We have been given the oportunity to sell 5 tickets, which are available to you as members for individual purchase.

It would be great to get some feedback from the people who have paid their membership fees this year to us whether they would like the Western Magpies to purchase a ticket with club funds for the representation of the local club here, or if they would rather have that money to put on extras for you here in WA to enjoy.

As you may be aware its our first year here in WA as the Western Magpies, and we do have some funds to cover both scenarios. There are pros and cons to both ideas. Its just a case of whether as members you would like the money to go as a donation to the club of behalf of members here, or if you would like to see it stay here for 2005
Western Magpie members.

Food for thought guys, Please post here with your ideas!

Thanks for your time and feedback,

Western Magpies committee

IMHO, I think it depends on the funds we have. If we have the funds available to cover all the functions we are planning to have and then some left over it would be good to support the club in this way. However, there is something that makes me think otherwise:
The Western Magpies is in its first year. This won't be the last raffle the CFC ask us to be a part of.

For me it all depends on the $$ we have. Tensions are easily raised when money becomes an issue. You guys have done such a great job in getting the WM's up and running and I'd hate to see that fall in a heap because we are trying to support the club too far. The CFC will always be, I'd like to think the WM's are here to stay too.

So, if we can spare the cash without the blink of an eyelid then yeah I'm all for it.

It might also be easier to decide if we knew what the money might otherwise be spent on.

Just everyone know, that if we happen to win the car, we could donate the car back to the club, sell the car and donate the money to the club or various charties.

If we did win we could do a combination of all three... give some money to the club, keep some for the western magpies, and donate some money to charity.

ok, examples of what the funds may be used for :

Family fun day- food and drink for members.
Freo Collingwood game- shuttle buses to and from ground
Southern Members - bus service from rockingham to the hydey on certain functions eg anzac day etc
Perhaps food at an end of season function etc

Hope that gives you some ideas.

The suggestion above is an important one for me!! To be able to go to the game together and step off a bus with another 200 supporters is a sign of power.... all together.
