MATTHEW PAVLICH WHAT A GUN

Post by GO RUPERT 10 »

i cant belive what a huge mistake we made.We didnt draft a potental superstar in pavlich and instead we gave our number 3 draft pick to richmond and got danny roach.i mean every time i see pavlich play i think what a terrible decision we made.Just by looking at the kid u can tell that when he matures that he is gonna be one hell of a player meanwhile weve got useless players like mckee and roach (who if proves me wrong i will bow before his knees).By the way speaking of mckee i heard he got thrashed by paddy steinfort of richmond,a player whos played reserves footy all of his career i mean why didnt we draft someone like peter somerville who woundt have been a bad punt for a 80th pick and given a 1 year contract
say what u want about the guy but at least he has expereince and size and i bet hes a better player than mckee will ever be

Couldn't agree more - Re Pavlich. Missed out on a potential superstar there.

Pavlich was drafted Pick 2, Fiora was Pick 3.
We HAD pick 3.

Either way, McKee isn't playing good enough and we must recruit a very good ruckman. Anyone have any idea about the current contracts of all the ruckman in the league?

This is from the AFL media guide for 2001.

1999 Draft

1-Fraser
2-Haselby
3-was Collingwoods pick. Traded to Richmond for McKee and pick 7.
Richmond used pick 3 to get Fiora.
4-Pavilich
5-Leigh Brown

Despite finishing ahead of us Fremantle picked up Haselby, Brown and Pavilich.

Good work Noel.

Hold on Rohan. At the time we picked up McKee we were go to need a ruckman to help Josh - this was a must. At the time we picked up McKee we also already had Tarrant, Rocca and Co. down forward, what would think would be the priority? To pickup a ruckman which we desperately need or ANOTHER forward?

While I believe that maybe Pavlich would have been a good pickup we did need a ruckman, we still do.

At a time when a big strong handy developing backman would have been handy a Leigh Brown may have been just as useful, but you must say at pick 4 Pavlich would have been a fantastic for us ie haveing Frazer and Pavlich....In Roach we have certainly erred.
SOme interesting picks in the 99 draft that might kick on....
Ryan Houlihan-pick 73
Ben Johnson-pick 62
Brad Green- pick 19
Brent Guerra-pick 28
Cameron Bruce-pick 64
Darren Glass-pick11
David Spriggs-pick15
Leon DAvis-pick 34
Jonathon Brown pick 30(father-son)

I agree, we are getting too carried away with "should have, could have, supposed to" etc.. this is all in hindsight. I'm sure many clubs are also kicking themselves on missing out on the likes of lockyer, lonie, tarrant et al. and guess what? michael jordan was taken no.3 in the NBA so you can see that our "recruiting blunders" are not all that bad.

if people think they can do better, please, submit your CV to the club for the position of recruitment manager. better still, if you are displeased with judkins, run for the presidency of c'wood, so that you will be in a position to sack him. otherwise - "rock n' roll....deal with it".

Yep, certainly right about the "what might haves" comment, but I suppose you learn more from your negatives than you learn from your positives. I have said for a long time that Pavlich would have been great at Collingwood, but he is not with us, so I think the Football dept. needs to learn from this one and hope that it doesn't happen again. We don't have the list at the moment that can carry too many mistakes
