AGM feedback
The mood was pretty good at the AGM this evening. Paul Williams was there to receive life membership and he seemed genuinely touched at the great applause he received from the several hundred members in attendance. The new recruits (minus Medhurst) were all there, and young Martin Clarke spoke with his broad Irish accent, and he seems to have quite a sense of humor. Dawes is hoping to play later in the season which is encouraging. Young Wellingham looks like he might be another aboriginal player which is great to see. The main complaints from members - it's hard to believe I know - was that they didn't like the meal at the copeland night!! Can you believe it! Mick seems fired up so all is set for a good year in 2007.
By the way, Eddie poured cold water on the idea of building a magpie museum, stating in his determined manner that museums everywhere - including the bomber's and the Melbourne museum - were white elephants. He wants to see more of our historical materials displayed and changed regularly at Lexus, but the club has no plans for a new museum there or anywhere else.

Eddie
Out of interest did anyone offer thanks to Eddie for committing to our club for another twelve months?
He has just come off what Im sure must be the most personally challenging year of his career. He has moved his family interstate where their support network is less than melbourne, away from family and the safety of the familiar, to work in a career where he has limited direct experience. Running part of a high profile listed company requires a materially different skill set than that of on air talent. His parent company has just undertaken arguably the biggest deal in its history and yet he still finds the time with his travel schedule and work commitments in one of the highest profile corporate roles in Australia. Remember also that the role of president is done for love and not money.
As a member I dont always agree with everything he does (but nor do I have to). I do however think that he loves this club as much as anyone and that he has what he believes are its best interests at heart. He has proven himself to be someone who has energy, vision and who doesnt sit in the safety and comfort zone-so I say thanks Eddie (and his family for allowing him the time away to do it) for recommitting and hope others do to.
Too many people sit on the sidelines and gripe but few take the bit between teeth and have a go with his energy and vision. Its not a matter of being a "fan" of his or not but rather saying thank you for the effort that someone as time poor as him still wants to give to our club.
I hope that the ultimate success isnt too far away-he deserves it...we all do.

I couldn't get to the AGM because my young bloke took ill suddenly. He is ok thankfully, but I had to make family a priority on very short notice.
To those who say i am as weak as hiss or the other word beginning with P, i dish it out and expect to cop it. Got no probs with that. But it is not about me now, it is about the 2007 flag flying high outside Lexus and VP.
But seriousl, I reckon we are a real chance in 2007. And I am backing us in right now.
Does anyone know whether the Club is open New Years Eve, or is any Collingwood drinkathon going on? I want to get aound in a Collingwood jumper and beanie on News Years Eve this year. Might head to Windy Hill in it. I hear there is a function going on out there.

I love this club and I hold anyone in contempt who does not think it is worth fighting for.

Coach as defensive as ever when challenged about the failure against Footscray. Apart from thata quick moving, low-key sort of AGM. No promises or very high expectations for the short-term. I for one found it refreshing to just get the facts without any hype or selling. We all know where we are - building through kids.

Excellent piece of jokery by the big Ant when the little Ant Princess spat the dummy on stage too.
"MAKE COLLINGWOOD GRATE AGAIN"
Well my dear friend welcome to the world of cowards paradise ( fansite forum boards ) where no life no bodys for a few short brief lines think they become a somebody..generally people who cant achieve but get extreme jolly's at attacking those who DO achieve.eddiesmith wrote:What a huge letdown the evening was, everyone kept promising fireworks but nothing happened, very disappointed
On all accounts the club has recruited ok, it has made a profit it once again it is feeding the homeless and or disadvantaged on Christmas day, it genuinely is a good club.
And your dissapointed that there were no fireworks as promised on an internet fansite forum oh please eddiesmith are you really that simple or maybe just maybe your one of these people who thrive on negativity and doom and chaos and most probably feel left out when events are very much the opposite...im glad your night of expected brawling and infighting was a non event because in the real world cowards hide under shadows and in dark corners which i might add is a pretty good spot for them.
Glad your night was a complete bummer!!

Rocca received his life membership also (with assistance from his pride and joy. Big Ant has also has stood down as Vice-Captain as announced by MM. This to give a younger guy a chance to join the leadership group. We were also given a video tour of Williamstown House where four new guys will be given the chance to move in. JA one of the current residents did most of the talking on the vid. The CFC pub portfolio of the Diamond Creek Pub Beaches on Beaconsfield Pde, the Coach and Horses in Ringwood, The International in Lilydale and The Club in Caroline Springs were also shown on video.
Questions from the floor as previously stated were mild - food and beverage complaints, additionally a couple of senior CFC members also remarked on the recognition of 25+ yr members needs to be looked at. The major points raised were regarding the final capitulation (fielded by MM) and the training ground situation (fielded by EMcG). The anwer from MM was one of extreme dissapointment recognising that we were run off by the Dogs. An area of deficiancy being quicks ... duh. We need to fast-track Dick - Dick is quick !!
Eddie was very measured in the response to the ground issue and basically outlined that we will most likely (hmmm) be situated on new stadium being built on the Olympic Park stadium site. There was mention of a share with Athletics Vic. (Ed declared his interest there) but no mention of the Victory's interest.
As previously mentioned was a very measured professional presentation - in VERY comfortable facilities. Free drinks after the meeting was very welcome and the G looking a treat getting a light shower of rain ahead of the Boxing Day Test.

Let all your troubles be forgot for we are Collingwood. We'll fight it out until the end we're Collingwood. So help me Jock.
Two pies and two beers thanks!!

Re: Eddie
I couldn't attend last night and im very sorry for not doing so, i think its the first one i've missed in 15 years..but i now live in the age of potty training, in house brawlings of a three and four year old so it was impossible to come along, i love being in the same room with a fired up mick malthouse and eddie is pretty interesting when he fires up as well, i do believe we have witnessed the gretatest presidency era in the history of the collingwood football club...many will bitch about the smaller picture but the bigger picture has bought future security, and in todays mad and at times crazy financial football world i take great delight in knowing my Grand kids will follow and support a club which has given us all so much pleasure.. ( the only dissapointment with following collingwood is one day we'll be dead ) and all this has come about via hard work and dedication from president and his board.georgejason wrote:Out of interest did anyone offer thanks to Eddie for committing to our club for another twelve months?

So what did MM say about the dogs disaster game? did anyone question him on Guy Richards having a 7th year after doing jack for 6? or what was said to Ryan Lonie after his soft effort in the WB final (not just final but 99% of games) where it was most profound, especially where he just watched the ball go bouncing through for a goal while he casualy just walked behind it?
