Steve, as far as I am aware, the deal involving the NAB Cup games is different to the home-and-away season rights. As per my comment in the other thread on the North-Collingwood broadcasts not being shown into SA and WA, FTA TV is a joke. IMO, the NAB Cup should be broadcast exclusively on FOX and then all the matches would be live.

Steve wrote:Just had a look at the guide for this weekend and the marvelous Ch7 are showing our game this weekend @ 1:25am Saturday morning, does the deal covering Friday night games on main event for the H&A season extend to pre-season Friday night games? does it even include the bundy region or is it just for bris/g'coast?

Sounds exactly like it was last year.I was living up there briefly and the only reason I was awake to see the games was because I would of just been getting back from the pub when it started on the telly! It was a disgrace the times that it was aired up there.Atleast our final was aired on the telly there live. Was the only redeeming thing by the networks in my eyes.

Yeah, I agree, mate. I think the basic problem, though, was that Seven/TEN stuffed up by matching Nine's original $780m bid WITHOUT getting FOX to sign the dotted line on what they would put in. As PBL own a chunk of FOX, that was all signed, sealed and delivered before Nine put their bid in. It just goes to show how bloody amateurish Seven are, because they were the driving force behind that bid.Steve wrote: Cannibal m8, the whole tv rights is a bloody joke, the only redeeming point it did have last time around was the Fox Footy Channel, now that's gone.
I can't understand how something that is worth so much money to so many people can be handled so amateurishly, it's a joke and has left every body scratching their heads as to where and when they can see their team play, delayed, not live as promised..................
pffft.
However, the ones that seem to be stuffing people around the most are TEN, who are just jumping ship from the match they are supposed to be broadcasting whenever it's more convenient (blatant ratings grab) for them to show a local match eg Freo and WCE in Perth, even if that's already being covered by FOX.
I just wonder whether they've cut their own throats, though, by this behaviour? Broadcasting into NSW and Qld looks pretty good for Collingwood supporters, with FOX now showing live the Friday night games which Seven/TEN don't want to. Frankly, the AFL must clearly have recognised that the one company which wants to do the right thing is FOX, not the FTA stations.
Come the next round of negotiations, Seven won't have any right of last offer again, so their first bid has to be their best and that means they'll need FOX on side up front. I just can't see that happening, though, can you? It puts FOX in the box seat and probably Nine, too, as they'll have an easier job doing a deal up front with FOX. If Nine were willing to put up $780 million this time around, expect their bid next time around to be maybe near $900 million and there's no way Seven/TEN will put up that sort of moolah without an agreement with FOX.
I predict that things will be much, much better for all of us in the next round of negotiations.

Steve, here's a link to the broadcast schedule for Queensland for the first 6 rounds:Steve wrote:Zakal m8, who knows?? how do you find out? how do you find out 3 weeks in advance so we can plan our weekends?Zakal wrote:Are you sure it won't be on Main Event?
Thats usually how Fox got around this issue with Fox Sports in the past, and its how they will be getting around it come the H&A Season.
Main Event only ever "got around" this problem into the Gold Coast up here for selected games, the rest of Qld was blacked out.
See this is the joke of all this, well over half a billion dollars involved and I can't find out if I can see the Pies play live 2-3 days before a game! unreal.

As far as I can see from this, all 6 matches are going live into Queensland.

I live in Hervey Bay and looking at the schedule we will be no better off than the previous Ch 9 deal - Friday night games are still replayed at 11.30 in other regional areas of Qld. Bloody disgraceful as they will show some B grade movie, Dr Harry or some other crap first.
So much for exposure for AFL in regional QLD - thank christ Ch 10 will show mostly Bris Lions games live on a Sat Night - lets hope they get pounded - *&^%$#@ cheats.
What else is Fox Sport offering other than the 4 live games a week?

Between 53-57hrs of Footy-related programming each week from memory.
Thats live games, old games, On the Couch, Fox League Teams, a "pre-friday-game show" and a variation of White Line Fever.
When it all comes down to it...this IS a better deal for NSW and QLD.
If you don't have Fox and can't get to a pub, then its pretty much the same (except you will now have to putup with Bruce).
However it is now POSSIBLE for a fan in Qld to see every game live if they want it enough. Last year, no matter what you were prepared to pay (short of flying to each and every game) you simply could not see some games.
I dont think this was a big improvement by any means, but its a very small step in teh right direction.
Another thing, don't Qld areas outside of Brisbane get games on Friday shown at 8:30 instead of 11:30 on FTA?
