Marty Clark - Rising Star

Post by dillo_09 »

Well done to our young Irishman.

SEN announced just before the 8.30 news that Marty has been named as this week's NAB rising star!!

Not unexpected after the weekend performance.

Hers to a long and VERY successful career with the pies!!

Nice work, i think we've found one hiding under a 4 leaf clover here.

This kid is a freak and will only get better.

That's such terrific news.

I know we actually lost our last game and could well lose our next two, but it's hard not to feel excited right now.

BTW.....did anyone else think that Cox showed us his real value on Sunday?
I got the feeling that this kids about to explode; he's looking very classy indeed. Hadn't really been impressed before this, but , like Goldie, Cox seems to have polished skills under pressure and that fabulous awareness of space.

Well done Marty!

Yeah i think Cox definitely has very good SKILLS under pressure...however his decision making is noticeably slower than Pendlebury's for example, and that got him into trouble a few times on sunday.

Like i think he took a mark on our forward 50 and played on, was running towards a hawks player, and i thought he was going to baulk him...but kept running, then at the last second tried to baulk him...but was too close and coughed it up.

I expect this to improve with game-time, and its certainly a lot easier to fix than poor disposal because everyone takes time to learn the game...but its just something i noticed on Sunday.

Well done Marty! Terrific player in the making. As for Cox Neil, your spot on. Looks to me like a seasoned performer already. Cool in crisis, with skills to boot. A one touch player that we've been crying out for. A lot of very exciting players, that we have only scratched the surface of (talent wise), at the club. Lots of kudos must go to our recruiting dept for the last 2 years, we are in for a great ride this coming decade.
Enjoy yourself. Its later than you think!

Actually another thing to remember is Marty is rookie (as we all know), but so to was Cox, and Goldsack was our last draft pick of last year.

the AFL world thought there were 68 players taken last year who were better than Goldsack.

NOONE but us thought Cox was worthy of an AFL list.

And well, Marty was never in the system to begin with.

Not a bad effort by us to spot the talent. So when you look out players in our back 6 this year you have Maxwell, Lockyer, Harry, Cox, Clarke who were all rookies, and Swan and Goldsack who were taken over 60 in the draft.

;)
