Collingwood must request a "please explain Geish"

Post by Magpie Since 1986 »

Was it just me or was that the worst umpired game we've had in a long time?

Usually you whinge about the umpire after a loss and it is sour grapes, but we won the game and I am still livid with what a piss-poor display it was.

For starters the free kick count was 21 Dogs 9 to Pies.

The free kick count doesnt have to be even, but the decisions were horrid, just off the top of my head: Bulldogs repeatedly throw the ball and dont get pinged, Toovey gets pinged for tapping the ball down (not even a throw). Bulldogs consistently get tiggy touch free kicks in front of goal when they get out bodied, we cant get a holding the ball or in the back to save our life.

On the wing Hargrave holds Reid's arms behind is back and gets away with it.

Most laughable and I need to see the reply on this, in the last quarter, Keefe in the goal square, takes the front position, seemed to get his arms chopped and somehow the Bulldogs players gets a free for holding the man?

Also the umpires arent even competent enough to bounce the farking football properly, no# 17 needs to go back to the VFL.

Loved that we booed the umpires as they walked off, lucky we still won or we might have torn the joint apart.

I always thought the bounce was meant to be straight up & down. There is a real trend happening where the umpire bounces it away from their body (avoiding their face). This often results in balls being bounced into the centre of the ground often towards the goals. This has to stop, they need to learn to bounce the ball or just throw the bloody thing up

It wasn't just you - absolute shocker from the umps. Do they still send them to the country? The club must complain.

I appreciate the umpires when I don't notice them!

The umps are always shocking, but they were deplorable tonight, but I don't know why people are surprised that were crap.

Umpire Appreciation Round is a load of bullshit. What about Fan Appreciation Round, where the AFL gives something back to the paying members and supporters who attend the matches.

Umpires are not here to be praised, they're only there to stay in the background and do their bloody jobs properly.

Agreed. Thought I was going to stroke out at one point in the first quarter. Bulldog were gifted first 2 shots at goal. Ball goes down our end, Close gets shirtfronted by two in a marking contest and we get nothing. Went downhill from there (although the Toovey one was a throw).

Terrible umpiring. I'm a firm believer that if we are much better than a team, then despite the umpiring decisions we should be good enough to win. But tonight was horrible. It was frustrating. And it was very unfair. These umpires were shocking. And they're supposed to keep the match fair?!!

By the way did anyone see Lachlan Keefe making a "stop talking/cut it out" gesture with his hand across his throat to Swannie (I think) after another dubious umpiring decision later in the match? I thought that was great maturity by the young fella.

Yep, the Keefe one in the last quarter should be the first one on the DVD we send to the Giesh and his bunch of morons.

Really, umpires should have to face the media after the game and explain some of their decisions, because some of them were mind boggling.

The one where Reid got tunneled and almost broke his back was terrible, and Cloke got smashed into front on and got nothing, yet if you touched a Dogs player on the should with your nail it was a free.

As I've said, we will always get a raw deal because these umpires grew up watching the game, and unless they barracked for us they hate our guts, just like everyone else does.

Luckily for them, and us, all it cost us was some percentage, and not four premiership points, but that won't cut it against the better teams, we need fair and equal umpiring.

appreciation requires someone to do something WORTHY of appreciationn.

they ponce around like they can do whatever they want and think they can get away with it.

I have not seen ONE game this year where collingwood has been treated fairly by the umpires.

It has got worse every game this year and tonight the umpiring made my blood curdle so much I nearly had a stroke.
