GWS AFL player on assault charges
Story just reported on MMM.
"GWS Giants midfielder Toby Greene has reportedly been charged with several assault-based offences following a nightclub incident in Melbourne on Monday night.
While Victoria Police would not confirm the identity of the 20-year-old man from Rozelle, NSW who had been charged, Fairfax Radio identified him as Greene.
Police laid charges of assault by kicking, assault with a weapon, assault in company, intentionally causing serious injury and unlawful assault on the 20-year-old."

Assault happened at Zagames in Caulfield (near Caulfield station). Venue not usually violent happenings, except maybe around Spring racing.

Pretty much anything can be classed as a 'weapon', a belt, a shoe, a plastic cup. It depends on the intent. Police like to throw a metric shit-ton of charges at someone so they end up pleading out rather than risk being found guilty of all of them. Sounds like he was involved in an oldfashioned slobber knocker.Dave The Man wrote:What a Dickhead.
Using a Weapon is not great and sounds like he could Possibly go to Jail but knowing the Vic Couts he will get a Suspended Sentence at Worse

Unusually enough, Greene is appealing his 5-match club suspension.

Interesting collision of employee rights and the highly authoritarian world of football clubs. Brave by Greene because he has little to gain (perhaps a couple of weeks' reduction?) and so much to lose (not being picked anyway; falling out of favour with his club for not being appropriately subservient).
Personally, I hope he wins his appeal and sets a precedent. Either way, I hope that any future attempt by the GWS to punish him for his insolence earns the wrath of the AFLPA and draws a big line in the sand on players' rights.
Oh, and good to see that Demetriou is as much of a peanut as ever. Good riddance!

agreed- light sentence from GWS suggests likely not much in it.Proud Pies wrote:let's just hold back on the opinions at this stage...... remember everyone getting stuck into Marley Williams......
greene's manager challenging likely to make the trnasfer back home to vic club in 2014 easier.
We should pick him up and then redraft krak and didak and trade back for heath scotland and get vossy in as an assistant coach and we can be the baddest team in the land.
