Off season trade targets

Post by Rick »

I can obviously see the advantage of targeting GWS and GC talent, but I was thinking about some fringe players at strong clubs in Hawthorn, Geelong and Sydney.

Sam Grimley and Luke Lowden (HAW), 2 ruckmen/forwards who have struggled for senior games.

Billie Smedts (GEE). Add some outside pace.

Dawson Simpson (GEE). Mature, strong bodied ruckman.

Jarrad Jansen (GEE). 192cm 93kg midfielder.

Tom Mitchell (SYD). Inside mid who would probably be ahead of Adams and Thomas.

Dean Towers (SYD). Wingman in the Isaac Smith mould.

Tim Membry (SYD). Jack Darling type 3rd tall.

Sense at last

Post by dunkers66 »

Great to see some sensible discussions which are aligned to our strategy ie rebuild. Some of the options put forward in other topics include chris judd, james gwilt and bringing back wellingham - all of which would send us back even further. Now is the time to get realistic - and realise ur window is a least 4 years away. For this reason i really think Frawley aint gonna happen either - wont work for us as timing doesnt align, wont work for him as we are gunna be as bad as dees for a few years, he wants more instant success. IMHO he aint that great anyway. Cloke for Bontompelli.
S'pose you fancy Tristarc at eights?

Smedts maybe. Dawson won't be on offer - he'd be playing seniors at Geelong if he wasn't injured. Mitchell is out of the Swans team because he can't run both ways, apparently - since that's Collingwood's major concern (the Coach has recently been making noises about us getting killed in the transition), he's probably not a likely prospect for us, either.

The others I haven't seen enough of to form any reasonable view.

If we draft a Ruckman / forward from hawthorn while ceglar is there playing well that would be the ultimate in crap list management.

Yeah, that would be (loves) like a slap in the face.

Neither great but at basically no cost could either serve as back up ruck options?

No.

McKernan couldn't get the best out of himself at the best club for developing talls. And Angus Graham... is still Angus Graham.

Would much prefer we play Gault as a nominated rookie (as I suspect we might)...

Michael Voss stated on SEN this morning that Matt Rendell rates Mckernan very highly and suggested he may find his way to the Pies.

That doesn't surprise me, but the same scuttlebutt was about last year too.

We already have one Rendell experiment of dubious value on our list. We don't need another...

McKernan is worth a look. Is a free agent now that he's delisted. Would also be a cheap back up for Grundy and Witts.
