This would make the whole thing a farce. What if 5 other blokes do the same? They could end up with compo picks left right and centre. AFL must close this loop hole immediately. It's just rewarding those drug cheating mofos

Could actually be good news for us if they do that. Opens up all their players as free agents as they've essentially admitted that they've failed in their duty of care and all contracts can be voided. We should approach a Heppell, Carlisle or Hurley with some big money to lure them our way. Upgrade all our picks to above 20 so the compensation picks won't dilute us.

This would be draft tampering wouldn't it? I suppose not if the AFL sign off. But in a time when people are questioning the value of free agency to the competition, I don't think it's a good idea. I don't like the compo system as it is anyway though. I think the team who receives the free agent should have to give up their pick in whatever round the panel recommend. If that were the case, then this idea wouldn't come up. The fact that there are free draft picks that come from no where means that clubs will try and find ways of getting them. It's exactly the same as the tanking/priority pick problem we had. The AFL never learn.

U don't get any compo pick if u have two free agents, can only have one I think.

If this is permitted then why don't we do the same thing for Beams?

ridiculous suggestion. the ryder case is an exceptional circumstance. essendon are not going to profit too greatly given their first pick is at 20. they'd get 21 at best.

Brisbane agree to give up pick 5 and we get a compensation pick of 10.

The way I read it this scenario has nothing to do with ASADA issue and all about some surprising loop hole in the rules where Essendon and Ryder can mutually void his contract and he then becomes a free agent and Essendon receive a compensation pick and Port agree to trade pick 17 for some over valued steak knives.

Us and Beams agree to void his contract we get pick 10 as compensation and Brisbane give up pick 5 for Blair.

They keep pick 25.

I'm shocked Essendon and Port could even be allowed to do this.

this has everything to do with the asada issue. if there was no issue ryder would not be wanting out. the afl would also not be willing to entertain the idea. it is certainly tidier than the breach of contract path.

Every other club should protest this in the strongest possible voice immediately and this loop hole should be closed tomorrow. It disadvantages every other club and is totally against the spirit of the draft. It's draft manipulation.

let essendon have their pick 21. hardly going to pervert the course of justice.

It totally is draft manipulation and should not be allowed but if Essendon can benefit from it then why can't we.

Beams has a father at deaths door after all.
