Firstly i want to say that i have no personal issues as such with the cheersquad or the people in it as i know Foxy, Joffa, Kerri and others and have no problems with them
However i would like to make a few suggestions:
1. The President and Chant Leader and all committee members etc should make a point of introducing themselves to everyone and making all new members feel welcome (this could be happening at present but i thought i would suggest it). They should also actively encourage new ideas and ways to improve the cheersquad.
2. I think the people who use the floggers and take out the banner should be rotated each week to encourage all members to participate. At present to me there seems to be a correlation with people who are perceived to be "higher up" in the cheersquad sitting at the front and having their own little click.
3. Im pretty sure there is a bbq at the start or end of the year. I think this is a great idea and should be more actively promoted. The banner suggestion on Nicks is also a great idea to promote the cheersquad.
The cheersquad in my opinion should be a place where everyone feels welcome and everyone should be treated equally. If people dont feel welcome or are members but feel shy or embarrassed then you are not getting the best out of the cheersquad.
Without being biased in anyway i have to say that Joffa is one of the most approachable people that there is. At the pub at the footy or outside of footy he goes out of his way to make people feel welcome and this is definately something that needs to be encouraged.

Brooke, there is nothing wrong with JLC's post.... and I wont be deleting it.... This is a c/squad forum and as such, suggestions as to how to make the c/squad better are encouraged and appreciated as long as they dont bag anyone or are of a negative nature....
Thanks for the suggestion JLC but it is already in place.... if u feel that it hasnt been successfull its because of the amout of ppl that are in the c/squad and sometimes if new members dont make themselves known.... wot can the few do?? if you or anyone else knows of newcomers I think it would be extremely helpful if on behalf of the c/squad welcomed them and made sure that they are introduced to the appropriate people...
I know I try to do this every week in every way and still dont know half of the c/squad by name..... It really is a mammoth job when you think about it...
Actually while Im at it..JLC it wouldve been good if you had've started a new thread for this....

Thats cool you can always transfer the post into a new topic ? Is that possible ??
I think the introduction part is mainly for the young children who want to join or get a flag etc but are too shy. Wherewas they would feel more comfortable if introduced to someone etc. Maybe its at the point of signing where they need to be introduced. Anyway thats how i felt when i was younger......lo

The feeling welcome thing can go both ways????
Let me say in feb this year at a comittee meeting ( the last one i attended ) it was myself who suggested we have a welcoming committe, this was recorded in the minutes,( for those interested in facts) the suggestion was laughed at, infact i was even asked why would we want to even do that ?
It was just shrugged off as another joffa thing getting on his high horse..after all what would he know ?
I love the cheer squad and i love its people and i believe the cheer squad if it got its act together would be the biggest cheer squad in the league 'FULL STOP'
I believe it will happen...the thing is because i have been vocal against those who do not share this same vision as i do, i allways kept being labelled as a trouble maker or some sort of ego driven maniac.
Regardless of whoever runs the cheer squad its unimportant to me, i just want the cheer squad to be a huge family ( and again i say go through all my postings on cheer squad topics on nicks board and you will see that from day one all i ever wanted to be involved in 'is a cheer squad that welcomes all people' a cheer squad where we are all equal and all invited to participate in all activities together,a cheer squad that is a family, but some people im afraid are driven by a false sense of power and when this happens they lose vision of the bigger picture.
And it hurts me to see other people and children being sucked into this vaccum.
The front row at times should be for the kids, the committe should not feel it is there god given right to have front row !!( it stinks of a boys club ).
And for those few small minded people who are going to say..joffa is at it again' let me tell you i have been smashing my head trying to get these opinions across and not just me i might add also by quite a few number of other people.
Come the finals just when i believed we were making great inroads into a lot of areas, i read a topic on nicks board wanting to know how did the practise match go between the 2 cheer squads.
A cheer squad member who happens to live opp moorabbin oval got a knock on his door wanting to know if he would like to participate..by you guessed it ..the same small group of 5 to 7.
Why wasnt everybody told about it before hand ?
Why the wanting to seclude everyone ?
Is the cheer squad not the 500 or so members ?
And some people might say ' shit' ease down joffa its only a cheer squad footy match, to me its more than that, to me its when the whole cheer squad should of got together away from football and really get to know each other even better, to cement new friendships and come away shareing the vision 'we are all one' 'we are all family supporting our beloved collingwood', regardless of mentality, looks, or even the pecking order within the committee, it would of also been a superb time for all the kiddies.
I've said enough
cheers
This above didnt happen and im pretty sad about it !!

Much mythologised, frequently misrepresented, collingwood has become a legendary place, from its slums rose a football club that would give its people hope, love and a sense of belonging, the collingwood football club gave its poor a sense of pride, it would quickly grow into the greatest sporting institution in the world...the collingwood football club to it's people is life.

i managed to score a front row seat in the CS for most of this year, and i loved it.
having said that, i still only know a few people in the CS (joffa, alf, cobood, and a couple of others).
there is a definite cliquey feel to the CS at times, but i try to avoid all that stuff.
i just want that front row seat because it's the best; i know the players can hear me and it's also mad fun getting chants going.
but as joffa said, we SHOULD have the BEST cheer squad in the league by a MILE. imagine if we bought the passion and atmosphere of the cricketers into the front few rows of the CS. not too say that i'd like to see everyone getting pissed during the game (i don't actually drink at all during games).
but we could be SO MUCH louder. we could be a HUGE, consistently passionate COMMUNITY.
i'm a bit busy right now, but i'll try to get some ideas together concerning the CS and put them on here.
as far as i'm concerned there needs to be changes in the CS. i'll try to detail exactly what kind of changes soon. though i think JLC's ideas are a great starting point.

You are all class Foxy If we were able to capture the atmosphere generated at Cricketers we would be an unstoppable force Foxy you fit into the category of one of the most down to earth blokes along with Joffa. Thats why the Cricketers is good as everyone is just there to have a good time and everyone there is equal!!
I think at the end of the day everyone wants the cheersquad to be a success. However there are many routes that can lead to the same destination!!!! It would be good if everyone followed the same path

I have always looked at the cheersquad with a kind of envy thinking "It would be great to be part of that...", I was a member of it a long time ago and then, even as a young lass, found it too cliquey. Whereas again, the cricketers is the exact opposite. A welcoming commitee is necessary - you have to have people on this committee who enjoy being friendly to others and who want to talk to everyone - no matter who.
And someone who has a'higher profile' role in the cheersquad isn't necessarily the right person to do this if that makes sense. Just because someone has a high position or responsibility (and do that job well) doesn't mean they can automatically be a PR person as well.
I think the cheersquad is on the right track but information provision is vital. You have the world of the internet at your fingertips and the ability to reach millions of people! Use it to your advantage, create a cheersquad webpage, create an email mailing list. Even if only 10 people subscribe, it is 10 more people getting the information than beforehand - and that can only be a good thing.
And also important, ensuring that people in the cheersquad actually cheer. I have to back up JLC's point of rotating the people who do the floggers and the banner - that is vital.
We have the supporter numbers and I think we have have the enthusiasm (look at us now and it is only November), but more importantly, we have the most passionate and steadfast supporter base around - with so many people with different skills, backgrounds, jobs, aspirations and personalities. And that is what makes a cheersquad what it is. Not who knows who.

well said lorelei. im not a member of the cheer squad and until i finish this bloody degree in 3 yrs time and get to melbourne i wont get the chance. so ive only been able to follow the goings on of the club and its supporters through the internet, press and word of mouth through mates in VIC etc. its a never-ending stream of posts on nicks and fto among others as to how great the cricketers is, how well everyone mingles when they travel, particularly to adelaide or sydney when its more viable for greater numbers to go than perth or brissy. yet it appears the CS continues to be dominated by in-fighting, ego and favouritism. is it not possible for those involved to recognise the opportunity at hand? one thing we ALL agree on is we support the greatest club in the land and therefore, by sheer definiton, we are the greatest supporters. now every club thinks this and fair enough too but the magpie CS has the distinct advantage of having the numbers to back it up. collingwood draws crowds regardless and therefore the CS benefits with extra membership and assistance every year. i dont have too many solutions - as i said im not involved in it and have very little idea how its run but for farks sake, get your act together. i understand the direction some want to take is different to others - thats always going to happen. but at least it can be said that all those in the CS want the same outcome - to support, in the best possible way, the collingwood footy club by developing the best CS in the league. work it out.
The days of having one person in control of so many people must come to an end, it is my opinion to have a leadership team of up to 4 people to sit amongst all the people of cheer squad to avoid 'clickiness' which creates all problems, the wanting to sit down the front week after week is just wanting to be seen.
Granted you have your president but to avoid dictatorship all decisions must be discussed within the leadership group.
The cheer squad at all times must be promoted to the kids.
All people must be made welcome and made to feel a part of all activities.
I tell ya why the cricketers has become known around the world for collingwood people to meet..and dont dismiss what i have just said too lightly..what collingwood people have achieved at the cricketers has been very unique and its getting bigger, its because at the cricketers firstly we get together because we are collingwood, no need to rehearse passion, 'no need to put it on' so to speak, if you aint born with passion give it away because your never going to get it, no petty jealosy at the cricketers and if anyone walked in to the cricketers thinking they were better than anyone else you would get the biggest thucking kick
up the arse.
And to those small minded petty bastards who are quick to tell me im driven by ego because i wear a gold jacket, go stuff yourselves, i would exchange the gold jacket for a greater cheer squad any day..
And let me make one point, the cheer squad is not at war, so please keep the dramtics to its proper level please, its about no more than 5 people who have no vision for betterment, everyone esle ( hundreds) are wanting this thing to succeed and are hurting because everyone wants involvement, everyone wants to feel a part of it.
Is that a crime !!!
how would you want your cheer squad to succeed lets get positive and offer better ways.
