Possible Chant

Post by LondonPIE »

There are a couple of soccer teams that have the song
"you'll never walk alone" as their song. I have been to games in Liverpool and at Celtic and when the crowd sings it it is just awsome..

Could be an ideal pick up for the team just before the start of the 4th quarter. Just think the pies are just breaking out of the huddle and 40,000 pie fans with scarves held high start singing
Walk on Walk on
With hope in your heart
And you'll never walk alone
You'll never walk alone.

Repeat a few times..
Now granted it would take a good few games for everyone to get into it but it could work..

What do you think?

I get shivers up my spine just thinking about it.

Most unbelivable song around. They were actually using it as the music to go along with a presentation of all things Collingwood before each home match and I would cry everytime it came on.

Oh God if that was to happen at a match - with the people singing it - I would be lying in a heap on the floor.

Top stuff

Where have you guys been?... We have been using that chant for the last couple of years.... I must admit intermittently though... We really tried hard in 2001 to have it take off even with the help of Eddie who had it played over the sound system with video for our home games... Unfortunately it didnt really take off as we thought it would...but it does remain as one of our chants..

Good call nontheless LondonPie and thanks....

I agree with Frankie. This song has been getting sung at Pies games for a few years now.
We were singing it last year in our standing area and people were joining in, it was sounding pretty good. Hopefully this year it takes off a little more like all the other songs that we sing.
In fairness to LondonPie, he is a little far away to know that we are singing it. Have a couple at the walkie for me LondonPie.

I was standing in the Kop end of fortress anfield when this was being sung during a coca-cola cup match agianst Celtic....it was the most amazing experience of my life, I just remember holding my scarf up and singing along and crying as i sang, just like all the other big tough liverpool lads around me.....as i said, simply incredible.....if this became a tradition at our club then my love and respect for the pies would increase even more (is that possible??)

Cheers

Everytime i hear the Liverpool song sung i get goose bumps and thats only watching it on TV. Its great to see everyone hold up their scarves and wave their flags. Its an amazing sight on TV so i can only imagine how brilliant it would be to be there at the game Image

It's certainly the greatest football song of all time. And I love singing it. Being a Liverpool fan probably makes me a bit biased.

We've tried it on and off in the Collingwood Cheer Squad for quite a while, but it never seems to catch on beyond a small group of people.

This is probably because it's not a Collingwood song. It really belongs to Liverpool. In fact it's their official song, and part of their logo. It's interesting that Celtic do it too. Celtic are my favourite Scottish team. (is this a coincidence???)

A lot of Collingwood supporters who follow soccer hate Liverpool. Maybe they're ManUre supporters ... or Newcastle supporters ... or whatever ... and they can't bring themselves to sing the song of a hated rival.

But then, I heard several renditions of the "Dago Blues" from Collingwood supporters last week ... so there is a precedent for singing other club's songs Image

I'm all in favour of singing "You'll Never Walk Alone" ... anywhere ... any time. Whenever I hear it, I automatically join in. I can't help myself.

But I gave up trying to start it when I was the chant-leader last year, because the response was always a bit lukewarm.

There is also a natural Aussie reluctance towards singing at the football. We are not a nation of singers. Which is a great pity ... because singing is great for the soul.

**YOU'LL NEVER WALK ALONE**

Thats very tue Alf........at the soccer the supporters chant and sing right through the game. Whereas at the footy maybe cause its more action packed there is less chanting ??

JLC you have hit the nail on the head with the soccer chanting mate.. There is nothing else for use to do for 90 mins during a game.
Its a choice of sing or cry when you realise that you have just spent $100 to sit in the freezing cold lol.
I am not and never will be a lover of liverpool but I do go and watch Celtic when I can and everytime the song is sung I get goose bumps.

It would be fantastic if it took off this season. I would even fly over for a couple of games haha.

Well As one who went ot alot of games while in liverpool.....I can honestly say that those guys know how to cheer, there are only 40000 in there but it sounds like 100000. It is absolutly incredible...I actually lived on Walton Breck Road, which is right opposite Kop end and when i couldn't make it to the game i would open the windows and listen to them all afternoon....I actually was reminded of this the other night listening to the chants and singing from the collingwood boys, it sounded great on the tele......it won't take long before the passion we have for our club translates in our cheering.....

cheers

The video and song last year were fantastic....I think if the words were put upon teh screen like subtitiles under the picture you would find alot of people joing in. Most people dont like singing when they dont know know the words properly....you only have to look at kareoke to see how people can go nuts singing when the word are put up in front of them.

I'd love to hear a magpie version of the Barmy Army cricket chant as follows:

Supporters sitting in the bay to the left of the cheer squad stand, sing & clap We're the Black side, we're the black side, we're the black side over here!
Then supporters and the cheer squad stand, sitting on the right respond

We're the White side, we're the White side, we're the White side over here!
Then every one together and pointing at the opposition cheer squad,

Your the crow shit, your the crow shit, your the crow shit over there[/b]

Thats a crack up. Only problem you'd have is that it is more a yobbo chant. We'll try it up the back.

... although I think you'll be struggling to find any Crow Shit to sing it to ... They'll all be home in Crow Town listening to K.G.Cunningham's articulate and totally unbiased radio commentary.
