Carlton game WONT be live

Post by Joel »

Just in case you didn't know, the Collingwood v Carlton game won't be shown live. The AFL has said it won't be broadasted live on free to air tv because the game is irrelevant to where the teams will finish in regards to the final 8. Here is the story:

League gives Blues TV snub

THE AFL may have lost the public brawl with John Elliott over the venue for Sunday's Carlton-Collingwood game, but it has belatedly drawn blood.

The league yesterday refused to sanction a change to the Channel Seven schedule to provide for a direct telecast of what will be a sellout game at Optus Oval.

It has supported the original schedule -- Port Adelaide v. Western Bulldogs and Brisbane Lions v. Hawthorn -- on the basis that both games are relevant to the battle for places in the eight.

Carlton can't move from second place this week, and Collingwood can't climb into the eight.

The Optus Oval fixture will be shown on the pay-per-view channel, C7, with a replay on Channel Seven late on Sunday night.

Elliott is understood to have contacted AFL chief executive Wayne Jackson yesterday to put the case for a direct free-to-air telecast of the match, which will be played in front of an estimated 32,000 people while the MCG sits vacant.

While the AFL has invoked a perfectly logical explanation for its refusal to intervene, it will have relished the chance to exact revenge for Elliott's intransigence.

The league created its own problem by scheduling the game at Optus Oval, but Elliott certainly didn't help when Jackson and company tried to redeem the original mistake.

This game, remember, is the only fixture in Victoria on Sunday.

Imagine the uproar if Collingwood was travelling as well as it was when the teams met at the MCG in Round 3, when a mere 82,669 people ambled along to the 'G.

Sometimes no one wins the game within a game.

I can see Eddie being a bit mad at thism we might see him on the news tonight and if not tonight he will (or should) be having a go at the AFL on The Footy Show. AFL- A**holes F*cking up the League (sorry for the language)

Its all because of fat rich arrongant prick john elliot. He is more worried about making a doller than having the maximum number of people watching a game live. The prick still won't budge from his little kiddie park Yuppie Oval, when the MCG is vacant and can hold up to 50,000 more people in attendance than yuppie oval!!! Am i the only one who is getting pissed off here?

We all expressed our displeasure a long time ago. It should have been moved but won't be, and a major part of that fact should be blamed on the AFL for not fixturing the game at the MCG in the first place.

I hope the AFL continue to turn on Elliot and the Carlscum at Princess Park. They have had it too easy for too long. I ownder how much they have been paid not to have games paid their this year.

Next year the AFL should schedule the worst attended games at Princess Park. Make it Freo's home away from home. And send North there to play against any interstate team too. This should meet the stupid long term contract the AFL signed, but hopefully not provide Carlscum with enough money to pay the interest on the grandstand, forcing them to eat into their other capital and operating revenue.

I don't like the inference contained in your last remark. It implies that we dictate or otherwise control the content of the bulletin board. Do you believe that freedom of speech does not apply here?

The only time Nick or I 'censor' anything on this site is when it exposes us to defamation action or is grossly profane - and we do that not only in the interests of our own well being, but also to safeguard the future of the site.

We have never removed or modified anything that you've written, except for changes to some of your entries in the Guest Book that you have requested.

The policy here is minimal interference.

None of the above applies to supporters of other teams who come here simply to bag the Pies - particularly in the Guest Book. Freedom of speech is not extended to them.
