Drug theft and driving offences

Not sad, bloody good thing he ain't out there potentially causing physical harm to anyone innocent.

Plenty tried to help him. Now he has no choice but to go cold turkey in a cell.

Footy doesn't even come into it. plenty of sympathy for his victims, him, not so much.

A tragedy which is far too common among remote Aboriginal communities.

Agree, all too often these kids are just as much victims of the environments they're born into.

Any danger of Hodge or Lance joining him in the Can, as a guest of Her Majesty?

It's a real shame he had talent to burn this kid, he just needed to be pushed in the right direction and it sounded like he didn't really want the dream he had bad enough. It's sad that it has come to this, I wish him well maybe he can turn his life around.

I hope that there is someone that can tutor him in how to turn his life around and he will make the most of things. Best of luck to him post-jail. I feel for the family but hopefully they will support him through this.

Why does anyone have to mention his heritage? If he was a white boy gone off the rails on a bender, does he still get your sympathy?

Did he get into drugs before or after he was drafted?

Did his fat pay cheque from footy allow him to indulge?

How about some sympathy for his victims of his crimes?

I got a better headline: silly young footballer with the world at his feet gambled it all away because he didn't say no to drugs.

Quoted for truth Jo.
Anyhoo, I'm sure he'll get parole well before that sentence plays out, and I'd expect him to be put into a solid rehab programme, so the AFL can make him the face of idiocy to show the juniors, and the indigenous.
Better do this as a paying gig, as he won't find stable work elsewhere.

And do it before the next AFL player becomes brain [snip] on ICE.

Why I used the more generic "these kids" label but sadly indigenous kids heavily over-represented in criminal justice matters. All too often though, our service systems are targeted at the outcomes, not at addressing the causes.

Probably just as easy to get drugs inside, so wouldn't expect any wonderful stories of rehabilitation or recovery (although would like it to happen) Plenty of other kids would have given anything to have the chances and opportunities he had. Such a tragic waste of youth and opportunity.

I take it you've never been to a remote Indigenous community. I regularly visit one in Central Australia and i've come to know fairly well around 40 to 50 young men, associated with their football team. Of that number, I can only think of 2 who have not served time in gaol. That's their reality.

Upper Swan is hardly a remote community.
