2 Terrible Eddie's Captain Calls

Post by Dave The Man »

Here are 2 of the Real Bad Eddie's Captain Calls

1: The Coaches Swap from MM to Bucks. Yes we did win the 2010 Flag but it has been Downhill ever since. Just keep going down the ladder and winning Less and Less Games. Had not worked at all

2: Brining in Gubby. Sounded like a Great Idea but now we learn he is right in the Middle of a Massive Drug Scandal. Did Ed know about this? So we could lost him for 2-4.

So that could be 2 Massive Stuff Ups where Ed has Done what he went by himself

I'll argue the other way Dave.
Eddie brought us Mick Malthouse
Eddie was behind our move to the MCG
Eddie was behind our top notch sponsors Emirates, Lexus, Holden etc
Eddie got us the 14 MCG game deal & the Ponny Social club

I could go on Dave. Why focus on two of Ed's moves that will probably turn out to be works of genius anyway? We are on the rise after a few tough years and Gabby Allan will prove to be the hard head in our footy department that we need.

Calm down and save your energy for the VFL Pies! :D
After the epic draw comes the decisive knockout!
Collingwood rules the world again and Mick Malthouse fulfils his destiny with the twenty ten premiership and can you hear the people sing!

Surely the appointment of Gubby Allan over the top of Hine and Balme is a board decision ?

Otherwise what the hell are they there for ?

Plus..getting MM
Negative.. going to MCG the place is to big for us.
Neutral... getting those sponsors ..useless to me the supporter
Negative ..social club at westpac is a complete dud
So Neil it would be a good intellectual discussion about all the other Ed initiatives.
we don't eat our own at collingwood we just allow them to foul our nest.

Intellectual discussion with you & Dave

Be interested to read what you were saying about MM before the transition was set up Dave.

As to Gubby, why should the club have suspected there was any issue hanging over his head. He's a good operator, a good get, be disappointing if he was suspended.

I was never a MM Fan.

Well Maybe checking what Allan had done but I think there is nothing in the Allegations anyway. I hope anyway

Yes MB
But Wada really love smashing small fish
and that is what the AFL is in the world of sport.
But Russia was big and they or their associates squibbed it with that huge fish.

Dave, think about it for a minute. Two premierships since 1958. MM won one of them. Eleven years at the helm. Finals in 2002, 2003, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 including four GF appearances. Yet you were "never a fan".

Do you think your judgement about coaches is something you might want to question ?

Just to correct Neil Appleby, the move to the MCG was engineered by Alan McAlister, not Eddie.

I believe that Eddie did contribute and did much of the negations in respect to costs, number of games and the occupation of the Ponsford stand.

And how's that Ponsford stand thing going? Didn't see it full for any game in the second half of the year. Worst place to sit in the MCG. If Ed waited 12 more months he could have got the Olympic stand bottom deck like Tigers and Dees have.

Anyway Mcalister was behind our move out of Vic Park (the place was falling apart and we didn't have the money to fix it) but Ed was the one who decided on the MCG ahead of the Docklands (the board at the time wanted Docklands, Ed didn't)

Ed's done way more good for this club than bad though, and it's too early to make a call on the Gubby saga, if he gets off he's a great addition for us.

The one possible mistake was the coaching succession plan, but it's arguable that we would never have won the 2010 flag if Mick hadn't been pushed to make changes knowing the end was near.

The succession plan was the right idea, just the wrong coach replaced Mick.
