Coaches Sacking Watch

Wow this has been a year when AFL teams got antsy with their failing coaches.

1. Brad Scott was pushed, but said he jumped.

2. Brendon Bolton was sacked for the worst record at Carlton ever.

3. Richo got the boot at St Kilda for their perpetual underachieving.

But I don't think that will be the end of the story yet for season 2019.

Who else will it be?

Surely Ross Lyon can't survive at Freo.

How on earth can Stewie Dew survive at Gold Coast?

And, will David Koch finally lose patience with Hinkley?

But most certainly of all, Don Pyke will be sacked at Adelaide (if not Monday, then the following week).

6 or 7 coaches sacked in a year would surely be a record.

Coaches under pressure:

- Leon Cameron (GWS) = Finishing the season off poorly and underachieving with the talent they possess.
- John Worsfold (Essendon) = Probably safe, but depends on how they perform in the finals.
- Don Pyke (Adelaide) = Crows supporters are disillusioned and they look like they're going to miss finals for a second straight season. Also have one of the oldest lists in the league.
- Ken Hinkley (Port Adelaide) = Port have been perpetually inconsistent under his reign.
- Simon Goodwin (Melbourne) = Contracted until the end of 2022, so he's probably safe for now but needs to turn things around next year.

Dew is only in his second season and has nothing to work with at the Suns. Some thought the Suns wouldn't even win a match at the beginning of the year so would be incredibly harsh to sack him this soon.

Pyke and / or Hinkley are the two under pressure.

Adelaide shat the bed on GF day 2017 but rather than change the sheets, they've just slept in shit for 2 years.

Port are just schizophrenic. Their best is pretty good but then they cake their pants, they look like a bottom 2 team.

Great post. I forgot about Worsfold, and Goodwin. And after today's result where the Giants did not score for the entire second half at home surely Leon Cameron's time is up!

There are more sackings to come I'm certain!

Amazing. Another Brendon Bolton if you ask me. One thing I would say about coaches today - and this applies to Dew - you have to show some real commitment to personal fitness (I mean look at Bucks' superb fitness levels). The fact Dew is carrying about 30 kilos of extra beef doesn't present a good look in this day and age.

I'm not sure generally, though his is an extreme case.

I have wondered about Davoren, whose job is more directly related, i.e. whether his shape undermines his authority.

Another one bites the dust. Don Pyke. That's four and counting.
