WAFL Finals.

Post by Skids »

The mighty Black & Whites, Swan Districts, travel to Mandurah today to face the Dockers reserves side, Peel Thunder in the Qualifying final.
Swans have lost the last 5 meetings with this mob, including a 31 point belting in heavy conditions 2 weeks ago.
Swans play in our first finals since scraping into the top 5 in 2021.

The winner will meet East Perth in the 2nd semi final, the loser to face the winner of East Freo & Claremont in the 1st Semi final.

Top 5, the best finals system by a mile.

GO Swannies!

Peel 5.0 - 30 lead Swans 3.1 -19 at 1/4 time.

A good effort by Swans into a stiff breeze. Giving away a silly 50m penalty allowing Peel to kick a goal after the siren a blemish on a solid quarter from the Black & Whites.

All the flogs in their purple dockers shit. Peel wear Power colours.

A great 2nd quarter from Swans, keeping Peel goalless.

Swans 7.2 - 44 lead Peel 5.1 - 31.

Swans pressure around the contests really lifted that quarter. Freo Docker Tabbiner had 2 set shots on goal for a minor score and on OOF.
Nik Rohkar with 17 disposals, 5 tackles & 3 clearances was instrumental around the packs. 2 goals to Brad Lynch, a set shot from the boundary outside 5o, followed 2 minutes later with another one from a clever left foot snap. Mini man, Jackson McLachlan also has 2 majors.

The boys are putting up a great show against the Fremantle docker supplemented side. If we can snare a couple against the wind in the 3rd and be around the mark, I can see the Swans boys causing one of the upsets of the season this afternoon.

3/4 time Swans 9.3 - 57 Peel 6.4 - 40

Leigh Kohlmans 3rd goal was an absolute cracker in that term.
Swans just have to maintain the pressure around the ball and we can win this. The breeze has swung around a bit, stil favouring the end Swans are kicking too but more across the ground now.

Captain Jesse Turner was off the ground for the last 10 minutes of that quarter with a leg injury, hopefully he is ok.

Claremont caused the 2nd upset in as many days, knocking reigning premier, East Fremantle, in todays elimination final.
11.13 - 79 to 7.13 - 55.

Next weekend East Perth play Swans in the 2nd semi Final while Claremont make the trip down to Mandurah to play Peel in the 1st Semi Final.

Swans v East Perth is always a big game, the next door neighbours are 1 a piece this season, with Swans winning by a point in the last meeting at Bassendean Oval.
Claremont & Peel are the same, having beaten each other once this year.

Mate just watched the hilites from Dockers website... didn't mind Kohlman, kicked a few rippers, but is he big enough to make an AFL list?

And what do we make of Will Brodie's form for Peel? I'd like to see him at the Pies in 2025 under Fly; reckon he's gettable?

Kohlman goes well, he's 192cm and 92kg. Big problem.... he's 32. First played colts for Swans in 2011. Been one of those injury prone players who could have been anything. Managed to play 37 league games, 15 of those this season. We need the big fella to be at his best this week against East Perth.
Swans will be without; Jesse Turner, our co-captain, who has been in great form. Aiden Clarke will also miss, suspended for 4 games for one of the softest reports you'll ever see. He pushed a bloke in the chest who staged a big fall, absolute joke.... The appeal failed, so he misses the rest of the season.

To be honest, I haven't taken much notice of Brodie. 189cm, 89kg, 26yo originally from the Murray Bushramgers. Averaged 29 disposals this season, I'll watch him more closely this weekend.

32! Bloody Hell! He'd suit our Dad's Army perfectly; grab him with our final draft pick lol!

Please do; In my mind he walks straight into our midfield and best 22...

East Perth are straight through to the WAFL Grand Final after beating Swans by 28 points in yesterdays 2nd semi final.

After an even 1st term, EP 3.1 v SD 2.2, the 2nd quarter ended up being the match winner for the Royals. They piled on 5.4 (4 in the last 10 minutes of the term) to Swans 2.2 to set up the match winning lead.
The 2nd half was a tight affair with only 5 goals being scored (EP 3.1 to SD 2.4).

Scott Jones, East Perths ruckman must have set some sot of record. The big man (205cm & 116kg) had 81 hit outs.

Final score EP 11.6 - 72 to SD 6.8 - 44

East Perth are in their first GF in over a decade, whilst Swans wait to see who our opponent is in next weekends Preliminary final at Bassendean.
Peel host Claremont today in that decider.

* The last time Swans were beaten by EP in a 2nd semi final was 1961, when Swans turned the tables a fortnight later and took out their maiden WANFL premiership.

Swans were very disappointing yesterday and got spanked by Peel. 15.13 (103) - 9.2 (56)

A great crowd (around 7000) had Bassendean Oval abuzz. Nothing like the pre Eagles days, where crowds at WAFL games were 10,000+ for H & A games and 40,000+ attended finals games, but still, it was a great sight to see the banks, stands and clubrooms filled.

Swans won the toss and kicked to the Bassendean end with a stiff 5+ goal breeze at their backs. Peel jumped out of the blocks and moved the ball superbly, only a lack of accuracy had them trailing at 1/4 time. 5.1 - 0.7. The 2nd 1/4 saw Peel skip away, kicking 6.3 for the quarter with Swans only score, a cracking goal from Kohlman in time on. It was one of only a handful of times Swans got the ball forward.

Needing a big 3rd quarter, Swans showed very little and were outscored 2 goals to 1. Peel cruised away in the last, kicking 7 goals to 2 to set up a Grand final at Optus with East Perth next Sunday.

Swans Colts advanced to the Grand Final and will meet a very slick Claremont side who only dropped 2 games all season. Claremont will play East Freo in the reserves GF.

Thanks for the report, Skids. Sorry Swans didn't make more of a go of it for you.
