But the common claim was that it was the ball drop that was the problem. (Maybe you mentioned it too?) Has that changed? When you say above "looks pretty smooth", it does sound like you mean the leg swing. |

Good comparison.
After checking out some old Andrew McLeod highlights on YouTube, I can see some similarities. _________________ | 1902 | 1903 | 1910 | 1917 | 1919 | 1927 | 1928 | 1929 | 1930 | 1935 | 1936 | 1953 | 1958 | 1990 | 2010 | 2023 | |

Some in the media were comparing him with Peter Matera... but I hope he'll be far superior to Matera. (And Matera seemed a bit grouchy in character and was one-sided in disposal...) |

Daisy picked before Pendles - Id suggest pendles is so far in front of
Daisy hes forgotten his name.
Sidebottom career is ahead of Beams in a number of ways _________________ "Even when Im old and gray, I wont be able to play but Ill still love the game"

Beams got 17 votes in the 2017 brownlow.
Sidey got 14.
When fit Beams is a gun.
Same issue with Daisy..... injuries have robbed him badly.
All 4 were our best recruits in a generation. |

You can't compare Beams and Sidey they play vastly different roles
There only common thread is they were part of the same draft year
Beams had played near 2 full seasons in the QAFL and a GF with Southport when he was drafted so his body was used to playing against men. Sidey didn't have that chance so it would naturally take him longer to get used to the size difference coming at of TAC cup.
Sidey body has held up remarkedly well considering the amount of miles he covers
Beams body has and is failing him.
No doubt both are tremendous players but if memory serves me correctly Sidey has played around 60 odd more games than Beams after Beams played around 5 or 6 before Sidey got his first game
Right now Sidey is playing much bette football than Beams but on his day Beams is a match winner in his own right as well just those days seem to be less and less
As for Browlow voting its one of the vagrancies in footy
Not getting Brownlow votes or getting Brownlow votes is decided by the umpires most of which struggle to see past the end of there noses |

Right now if you were rating those 4 on there best full year of footy IMO it would read
Pendles
Beams
Sidey/Daisy
But on current form it would be
Sidey
Pendles
Beams/Daisy |

Rated purely on all of their finals performances, they're pretty close for the first three places....
But at this instant (i.e. I may change my mind) I'll go with Steele, Pendlebury, Daisy in that order. [Beams is thus last but played a terrific final against WCE.] |

Beams won a Copeland and Daisy never did and I don't think he ever got close to winning 1 _________________ I am Da Man |

Brownlow votes.....really ????
There are a number of different measures that show Steele so far has had the better career. End of the day the contribution to Collingwood has Steele in front. 2010 gf - both games Steele contributed and was in our best. Beams wasn't. _________________ "Even when Im old and gray, I wont be able to play but Ill still love the game"

Yes. They were both selected in Grand Final teams for Collingwood. One of them attended the game. |

Gee Peter Matera, eh?
One of the few opposition layers I used to love watching, except for when we faced him of course. Geez I used to wish he played for us.
Gonna watch the kid for the resemblance now. Might satisfy a long-held wish |

Peter Matera only had a right foot like Diego Maradona only had a left foot. Sometimes it just doesn't matter that players are "limited". |
