^I wouldn't object to including an effective hit-out to advantage within the AF points. It's as valuable as an effective handball.
Maybe weighted the same as a contested possession or effective disposal.

On the same vein, kick-ins need to be 'to advantage' or equivalent. If your teammate marks it, include it but give it the weighting of an effective disposal.

^ The team stats demonstrate the ruck dominance - 47 hitouts to 23; 14 hitouts to advantage to 4 - Thor had 9 of those 14; centre clearances won 11 to 9 and stoppage clearances won 32 to 22.

Only the 134 AF points against the top team (before his team just toppled them to third) today. His tally was 15 more than the next highest player on either team - but I'm sure it was just another statistical blip and that if he hadn't played, the Swans would actually have beaten the Giants by 10 goals instead of 5.

After 8 games last season, the Swans were 3 and 5 and this year they are 7 and 1. You'd think they'd be very disapplointed with Grundy's recruitment - how do you hide a player who is only BOG about every 2 or 3 games?

It wouldn’t have anything to do with the midfield around him making his work appear a little better than it is really.
He can get all the coaches votes he likes will mean nothing in September when the big games roll around are they are bundled out.
Let’s wait and see if he can do something there in September first
Right now he’s playing like he’s worth the $475k/$525k a year there paying him but nowhere near the $1m deal we gave him
I’m happy he’s happy in Sydney we have a premiership trophy in the cabinet to show for it

Anytime you want, you can concede that you may have gone a bit early when you started this thread in the preseason. His team is top of the ladder. They weren’t last year.

The Swans are one of the teams that can win it this year.

As it stands, I dont think they'd be unhappy with Grundy in the team. But a lot can happen in a week, let alone 2 thirds of the season.

How would the Dees feel if he wins in Sydney? How would the Pies feel? Gonna be an interesting few months. Especially if Pies/Dees run into them in September.

^ Melbourne might feel stupid - not leaast because he has a brilliant record against Gawn. They should feel stupid anyway because they're ... well ... Melbourne.

As for us, we made the call for good reasons.

I’ll happily concede that he’s playing in a team that at this point in time is playing very well.
I’ll also concede his midfield it going extremely well despite his average ruck work
And I’ll concede the contract we gave him is now confirmed as the worst contract ever offered to a player in AFL history.
There’s no trophies handed out in May so at the moment where they sit means nothing really.
Melbourne are rightly flag favourites at the moment if they stay fit snd healthy they’ll be hard to beat on the MCG come finals

I think you’re thinking of the wrong code - unless Melbourne borrows Grant, Munster, Hughes and Coates, they’re going nowhere.

Unless they play the Scum because they couldn’t beat them tonight 😳

A Carlton supporter's observation on Tanking Carlscum tonight:

grundy has destroyed pitto's tap work, and that's been the end of us.

I watched the game
The tide turned when McLean went into the ruck and started giving them first use of the ball
Grundy in the first term was soundly beaten by both Pittonet and DeKonning
He then gave away 2 frees for blocking at the centre bounce but for whatever reason then Pittonet stopped jumping at the ball and the Swans midfield went to work
His influence was marginal at best and he broke even with there rucks across the game
There dominate come Carlton’s lack of pressure and poor skills

^ That's presumably why Grundy only got 6 AFLCA coaches' votes this week. Surprisingly, no other ruckman got votes.

McLean 6 hitouts, none to advantage, no clearances.
Grundy 32 hitouts, 6 to advantage, 7 clearances.

Grundy scored 105 AF points. Pittonet and De Koning scored 97 between them.

Also, Grundy has 24 coaches' votes so far this year. That puts him ahead of everyone at collingwood, except Nick Daicos.

Keep digging. Laughing

Yes he’s finally playing to the pay cheque Sydney are paying him around $450k a season
If they where paying him anything more than that they would be asking for a refund
You still don’t get it do you
They’ve won nothing yet
He’s been propped up by a midfield going so well luke Parker can’t get a game in it.
There winning has absolutely nothing to do with his presence
They played this well in the later part of last season with hickey as there ruck
Longmire doesn’t value rucks at all
All he needs so someone who can at least make a half effort to get the ball to ground and let his real footballers go to work

BOG or thereabouts again, tonight. I'm not sure it counts - it was only English. He has so many Brownlow votes against English that it no longer matters. As he so often does, he steamrolled the opposition into the dirt. He didn't just dominate the ruck - he smashed them physically around the ground. And, at the end of the game, when Footscray was pressing and the rest of his team were out on their feet, he just won stoppage after stoppage and denied Footscray the ball.

Equal-best start to a season, ever, by the Swans. It's funny how a midfield of competent players can suddenly dominate when they're given first use of the ball by a first-class ruckman.

You’re joking right ?
The only votes he will get will be from the bulldogs he was in there best 5 players
Like I said the other day this same midfield dominated the second half of last season with hickey as the ruck so really let’s be honest it nothing to do with the ruck
How good is the midfield when Luke Parker can’t get a game
The biggest difference is Heeny now plays 85% time in midfield last year it was 25%
That’s the real reason why Sydney are going so well it’s on Heeny’s back
When he’s on Sydney look unstoppable when he’s been held they look beatable
That’s why he will be leading the Brownlow at this point of the season
If you want to see Grundy’s real value to the team go watch Longmire reaction to Grundy’s 50 in the first term then as he was benched minutes later see the spray he copped in the phone.
McLean came on won the next 2 clearances then went forward and kicked a goal
But for $450k a year he’s actually getting close to performing to his pay packet
At a million a year he wasn’t even in the same stratosphere of earning it
Just admit it he’s a $450k a year player and that contract we gave him is the worst deal ever done in AFL history bar none
Oh just so you know right now he’s rated the 6th ruckman on champion data which I found surprising I had him closer to 10th
