What a wonderful uplifting song .
So the question is .
Who wrote the words to the Collingwood version of Dolly Grey and which band/vocalists were responsible for this world famous inspirational song ? _________________ THERE IS NO SHADING IT IS AS PLAIN AS BLACK AND WHITE THAT THERE IS ONLY BLACK AND WHITE |

The Collingwood female coterie group originally called "The Dolly Grays" is now officially know as "The Women In Black". _________________ Now Retired - Every Day Is A Saturday |

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think 'Goodbye Dolly Gray' was actually a song from the Boer war, much earlier than WWI. |

Well researched and correct. It was said to be written by the famous Captain Hunt of the Bushveldt Carbineers who was subsequently mutilated by Boer commando's, masquerading as farmers, during a raid on a farmhouse by the Carbineers. Although it was later found he only knew of the woman that wrote it. The Australian heroes, Lieutenants' Morant, Handcock, and Witton were later court martialed for revenging the murder of Hunt. The British Colonial corrupt officials at the time ensured Morant and Handcock were executed for some minor issues involving Boer prisoners and a Reverend Hess. It was rumoured in official circles that the British attempted to steal the words to Dolly Gray and claim it as their own. Actually the truth is that the modern variance to our Club song was written and sung by a Boer farmers wife that Lieutenant Handcock used to service whilst her husband was out on the veldt fighting the Carbineers. So it goes, our club song can trace its origins back the the Boer War and some un military behaviour involving adultery with an enemies wife. _________________ I love this club and I hold anyone in contempt who does not think it is worth fighting for. |

I'm sure I've seen a western movie circa 1950s with this song in it (see the soldier boys a marching....)and a leading female character in the flick none other than Maggie Collingwood. Wonder what the title of the film is? _________________ woodsmen rule |

I am sorry that is nonsense. Read my last post. I am sure the Beijing Schools teach the rubbish propaganda about Australian that you posted, but it is false. What would they know about us anyway! _________________ I love this club and I hold anyone in contempt who does not think it is worth fighting for. |

I read your last post. That is why I replied.
And what the hell does my working in Beijing have to do with "propaganda about Australian" when we are talking about the origins of the song "Goodbye Dolly Gray"?
I gave a reference for my information.
Do you have a reference for yours? |
