Not too fussed, neither were pushing for senior selection.

Worth the try with the Irish boys, sometime soon it will work out for us... to be sure.

Marty Clarke would be my worst ever call.

When he came back I was sure he would be in our best 15 players by now.

Never even got back in the best 22.

Still thanks for the memories Marty

Marty Clarke was the steak knives in the trade deal that saw us land Jamie Elliot from the Gold Coast. Came with little risk.

His first stint with us was very impressive and it was a loss at the time to see him go.

Other teams have found some decent Irish talent but we're yet to have any real luck.

For me Clarke has never impressed outside the 2007 season.

He was solid in 2008 but never developed as expected.

He's slowly diminished as a player since then and I expected his latest stint at the club to end in failure.

With the failure of so many overseas experiments, it's a pity the AFL doesn't develop a special rookie type draft for Aboriginal players from remote communities. There are some amazing football talents already in Australia's backyard who are highly skilled and intuitive players. Sure, clubs would need to develop specialist programs to assist these young men transition to the demands of professional football, but even if one in ten succeeded, I'm sure they would have an amazing impact on the game bringing excitement and flair to what is fast becoming an overly structured and predictable game. Given the hundreds of millions of dollars invested in the game, it's a shame that hardly any is used to open up pathways for these brilliantly talented young Australians. Remember Liam Jurrah who came down to Melbourne from the desert alone to play for Collingwood. He ended up at Melbourne which was a club in disarray which contributed to his tragic downfall. However, for 2 years Liam was just about the most exciting player in the AFL. With the right environment, at a quality club with great support structures in place, there is no reason why some of these incredibly talented players can't have a similar impact. One day I'd love to see our club lead the way in this area. After all, we are the peoples club, born out of adversity and a marginalised and downtrodden community, much like many remote Aboriginal communities. Come on Collingwood, lead the way!

Yep the same Cam wood that handed the Dockers a game on a platter by grabbing it out of the ruck, panicking and kicking it straight to the opposition 25m out, right in front.

2007, when Marty debuted, we were being heralded as the most innovative club in the league when it came to getting that extra edge against the opposition. Irish recruits, altitude training, high rotations and burst play, the list goes on.

Marty's departure, along with an untapped talent in Mooney who just didn't develop as he should have in the Collingwood system, is a sad indictment on where we are at as a club in terms of innovation. Hope the Cox yanker turns out ok

Good luck to both of them.

Coming half way 'round the world to play with the Magpies well done lads.

Thanks for playing for Collingwood.

I thought Mooney had the ability to play. Nonetheless. Clarke lost out when he returned to Ireland & the game developed much faster than he did. He was already on the slide here. A poor call by Buckley at the time I thought.
