Here's my final comment on this disappointing thread.

If we really want to avoid racism in sport, or anywhere else for that matter, we have to avoid making assumptions or stereo-typing people. Not all Aboriginal people come from disadvantaged communities, with high levels of violence, alcoholism etc - though far too many do. Likewise, not all footballers from posh private schools, are born with a silver spoon in their mouths - though many are. People should be accepted as individuals, with their own unique set of skills, attributes and problems. Obviously their community and family backgrounds will impact greatly on their personalities and their ability to meet the many challenges of modern life, both professional and personal. This applies to all people regardless of whether they are Aboriginal, Irish, Greek or Kalathumpian.

Any professional football club worth its weight will take into account the specific backgrounds, issues, challenges and skill-sets (physical, mental and emotional) of its players and manage them accordingly. Some may need more emotional support and encouragement than others. This may necessitate flexibility in the way the person is managed/trained as an AFL player.

So if, in the opinion of our club, Andrew Krakouer would benefit from some 'time out', to sort out some personal issues (whatever they are), then our club is doing exactly the right thing in allowing him to do that. Hopefully, this will enable him to return at some stage in a better frame of mind to face the grueling year ahead. If not, then all we can hope is that Andrew is well, and know that our club did all it could to assist him.

We'd like to keep this thread more specifically around the problems faced by the Krak.

Apologies to anyone who feels slighted by that process - there wasn't a lot of science applied.

He came back after the off-season break overweight, copped a blast, and couldn't handle the home truths he was given.
Kraked the sads and now has "personal issues"......

I have "personal issues" that make me not want to turn up to work sometimes too - but I still turn up...... AND I'm not on 6 figures doing something I love to do like play footy!!!!

It is a really soft society we are creating for the future if this sort of thing is acceptable and the norm........
