They do inject cows with it in NZ .... maybe they ate a dodgy beef curry !!!!

Also it is very possible some dumbass farmer injected & massively overdosed a cow with this shit that ended up as a steak. like the label read 5ml & he gave the cow 500ml or 50ml.

I'm really hoping that it's an accidental contamination but I'm not holding my breath. The thing about being a middle of the road, almost made it sports star is that the PED route is the only chance to take the next step. Most quietly bow out and move on with their lives, but some give in to temptation and take the cheating route.

*edit* The drug is mostly used to look buff, not sure it'd be the best option for PED in the AFL. I'd be leaning slightly, ever so slightly towards contamination.

Did they holiday in Mexico ??

In 2011, players of the Mexico national football team were found with clenbuterol in their bloodstreams, but were acquitted by WADA after they claimed the clenbuterol came from contaminated food. FIFA has also claimed 109 players from the Under-17 World Cup in Mexico tested positive for this drug, because Mexican meat is contaminated.

What about a mexican restaurant as a defence?

FWIW my research indicates that Clenbuterol may be used in cattle and horses in NZ and the positive test was 3 days after the squad returned from NZ. Could it be steak (or milk?) from NZ? Just putting it out there. Apparently the players have said they don't know how they could have ingested it.

Anyway, let's wait for this to play out before we hang the kids.

Interesting.

It looks like it's only used in pregnant cows.

With only the two testing positive the would need to be able to isolate a source that they might have only eaten or drunk or eaten or drunk in larger quantities than the others.

You are assuming all players were tested.

eating large quantities of liver can raise the risk of testing positive for clenbuterol

I remember viewing the pics of the NZ trip on the club web site and seeing the players in two and threes eating all sorts of different food around Queenstown on their time off - pizzas, sushi come to mind.

Can't find those pics now on the website. Might have been on the twitter feed which has since been deleted.

Could be that the two players ate something contaminated with the offending drug. They share a house in Melb so they possibly hung out which each other around Queenstown.

Speculation of course.

The fact that they looked "in shock" when told leads me to believe that this wasn't of their own doing. It just makes no sense.

Let's stick with our boys and get behind them and our great club through this disgraceful beat up ! This is very convenient leaking of this news the day before Essendon get this up pence ! I smell a conspiracy here and would argue that our boys are innocent and have been set up! It's about time we sacked ASDA! These two blokes hardly look like steroid munchers! I have two coffees a day . According to ASDA I would be guilty of taking a banned substance . What about players who take Viagra ? Guilty also I imagine? This whole thing is set up designed to undermine our rise to glory in 2015. What a low act! I would call a press conference and say just that! How dare these bastards pick on our team!

Yes Hiss
It is strange that it came out the day before the
Essendon outcome.

Have they aready been suspended for 2 years, bloody channel 7 are going apeshit over this, hung, drawn and quartered them already. I smell a rat, Hiss could be on the money, seems amazing coincidence, the day before the Bummers penalties come out, this is a conspiracy I tell ya, a damn full blown conspiracy against our glorious team !!

We need a calm & measured approach & wait till all the facts are known. This can be achieved by simply banning all Queenslanders and horses.

Absolutely shocking news, and tops off another great pre-season for us.

I can't believe that the players would take a banned substance in this day age when there is so much scrutiny on drug taking. It just defies belief that any player would be that stupid.

Hopefully they've taken the drug by accident,by eating contaminated meat or something like that, and they can prove that was in fact an acccident.

My opinion is that they couldn't be that silly.

It has to be either a meal eaten contaminated unbeknownst to anyone

OR

somebody spiked their food.

If they deliberately did it, well there can only be one answer....

Some pretty bloody disgraceful comments on here; at least wait for the B sample before the summary execution.
