To me, this is a massive lose to Essendon. They lose three highish first round picks, with minimal return. |
How is this a massive loss?
They gain a ready made player big body that they have been after and 2 first round draft picks.

175 cm, 29 yo. Small Forward/Mid.
Games in 2020: 5.
Upgrade on: JT? Covers the loss of Varcoe?
Bit of a fall from grace. Has been very good up until this year. Is there an underlying issue? Or has he just lost his step? Has an indigenous heritage. Very quick. Goal sneak. Won't fill an urgent need for the club.

190 cm, 24 yo. Forward.
Games in 2020: 2.
Upgrade on: D Cameron? Covers the loss of Reid?
Was flying in 2019. A high flyer, but maybe doesn't kick enough goals. Has a spark in him and is fast by foot and can tackle.

Billy Gowers
187 cm, 24 yo, Forward.
Games in 2020: 3.
Upgrade on: D Cameron?
Lacks a bit of height to be a true CHF/FF. Maybe more of a third tall option, which we have Mihocek for. Can tackle, can mark and an kick goals. May be a tad overrated as he won the club leading goal kicking award, but it was only for 26 goals.

I like the look of Matt Parker- would add something to our forward structure.
I also like to consider the following as potential Rookie listings:
Corey Lyons- Brisbane Lions
184cms and 84kgs 22 years old
A ball magnet in the NEAFL with a turn of pace that we could use in the forward half.
Sam Skinner- Brisbane Lions
198cms and 100kgs 23 years old
A Gippsland lad that has the capacity to play at the highest level- has had knee reconstructions but worth a shot as a Rookie- can play either end of the ground.

I think we're all feeling a bit frustrated and will until the week is over.
One thing that I think should happen is.... Dont facilitate Essendon.
It makes me sick to think we'd help them land Dunkley when we're offloading players from our best 22.
Yeah it's possible to land picks 6 and 7, but why not pick 5 from the Suns and 4 from the Hawks?
If we have to trade Stevo, with Philllips already linked to the Hawks, can we trade both for pick 4? And hopefully AT decides to move to Qld and we can bring in pick 5.
We can offer our future first in a swap with the Dogs in return for their first this year, or possibly a player. But I dont know who.
If we can avoid dealing with Essendon/Dodoro and make it harder for them to get the players they want, then that can only be a good thing.

We could trade with Hawks but they must use a first round selection this season (I believe Essendon is in the same situation).
I'd say their pick 4 is off the table unless they are receiving a first round pick in return from somewhere. |

It's all above my head really. Im just putting up ideas that will never happen. Really want Essendon to miss out on Dunkley.
Treloar, Phillips, Stephenson, pick 16 to Hawks maybe?

I would be interested, especially if he could liven up our forward line. Yes, he struggled to get a game at the Saints but they had a pretty strong forward line, we don’t.
Like to rest of the AFL community I’m concerned how we splash cash around. It’s a joke really. |
